I knew the guy wasn't a linguist, but I'd heard from some of my friends who are linguists that it was still worth the read. The sad thing is that Midwestern--and Chicago--accents are changing. (Yes, I know change is constant; most Chicagoans today don't even hate New York city any more.) I think that's part of the book. Not sure how much he discusses vocab v. pronunciation, but I'm gonna read it soon. |

I was oppressed today. Went to Chipotle and the three black guys ahead of me all got a huge handful of cheese on their burrito bowls. I was so excited seeing how much they were doling out without having to ask for extra. When my turn came around, I got roughly 7 shreds of cheese. I now know what it feels like. You should have let that lady cut. |
