Jesus H Christ is all I have to say.

She doesn't talk so I send her an occasional news item or interesting tidbit I see on the web. Maybe 2-3/week. Sometimes I get a response, usually not. I sent her something on an interesting commencement speaker yesterday. Later on I ask her if she saw that?

"Yeah, but I kind of ignored it."

I'd say 90% of my communication with my teen daughter involves sending her GIFs or her asking me to pick something up for her while I'm out. Occasionally I trap her in the car and force her to actually talk with me as we drive somewhere. Usually I'm met with eye rolls. It's good. Whatever

yeah, I don't have much to add on this subject other than teenaged girls appear to be pretty tough to communicate with.

I did what Hatchetman is trying when I first met my stepdaughter. Sending e-mails or texts to see how things were going or
forwarding interesting stories or articles I thought she might be interested in. I tried that off and on for a number of years but
my efforts were met with disinterest and usually no response whatsoever. I found over time for it to be a complete waste of my
time to try to connect with her and so now I have no relationship with her at all. She told her mother yesterday that after she
moves out she plans on cutting herself out of our family unit altogether. I thought she took the eviction notice well! Pretty
confident she will come crawling back to her mom when she needs something.

That's the line she's using because her mom coddles her and think's she will cave and override you.

Better this happening now rather than funding a potential wedding and it happening.

My oldest 2 kids are girls and both are pretty much teens. My 14 year old started high school this year and my 12 year old starts next year. Nearly every reply to me starts with the word "no" but both are respectful and I still have their ears. If I can keep them for at least the next 4 to 5 years and preferably the next 8 to 9 years I will be winning. I'm more concerned about keeping my oldest son's ear for more than 10 mins. He is still respectful but I thought I had a few more years before he started doing stupid shit.

Thanks for saving me years of trying. I'll just throw her out of the house now!

Yep. Absolutely how it went with me. Well, not upset so much as panic in that I had no sisters or any experience with nieces or anything. But I've told my daughter repeatedly that having a daughter as oldest child was a huge blessing to me. Was able to deprogrammed myself a bit from how my dad raised his boys.

My girl was zero problem until she turned 12-13. Even now she's not really a "problem" I guess. Just really annoying. Don't want it to get any worse. Not sure what tack to take.

Worse for me. We were told it was a boy only to need an ultrasound a month or so later and hear "your daughter is fine". I felt like I had been punched in the stomach. I don't think I recovered until she was born.

Hammer! Seriously do a Daddy & Daughter Day. Let her choose the place or places. Have a conversation where you are doing most of the listening. DON'T JUDGE HER! You should be able to figure it out from there.

Yes, she knows it hurts her mom and that makes me even angrier but my wife even told me last night before
we turned in that she appreciated me standing up for her. I think her daughter has been steamrolling her forever.
I want mother and daughter to have a relationship, however dysfunctional it may be. Earlier this summer she
told us that she was "gonna do me" (I HATE THIS SAYING). I'm fine with her "doing her", she will just be doing it
somewhere other than my house.

They're incredibly moody. They are always sick and/or tired. I haven't had any communication issues. My daughter turns 17 this month.

My situation is a little different in that I met this girl when she was 15 and already had a lot of issues with her own father. I knew it was
an uphill battle. I also never had kids of my own and really little interest in kids in general, which is my own issue I guess. Your daughter
is still young enough that you can have an impact and find your place or common ground with her. I thought Nas' idea of a Father/Daughter
Day was a good one. Get her to talk about herself and you may find out quite a bit, maybe even more than you want to know! ha ha

Without looking at the Urban Dictionary, I think it pretty much means that she is going to do whatever she wants, whenever she wants
and doesn't care what anyone thinks.
