From what I've read on this, the copycat-style shootings take place in the immediate aftermath of events, within days or weeks, when the media is going crazy posthumously combing through the shooter's actions and life with a comb and magnifying glass. The people sociopathic enough to commit mass murder see all the coverage and think if THEY commit mass murder, the media will cover THEM and THEIR views, helping them reach a wider audience, etc.

So I don't think you have to worry about going to Vegas and being in a crowded area because of THIS specific event, but of course I can't blame you for the worry right now.

Read something which stated that they had to redirect patients from one of the hospitals because it's emergency ward wasn't equipped to handle the overflow of patients.
