Anyone ever tried one of these? I guess you just go and solve a bunch of clues to find your way out of a room... sort of like a murder mystery or something.

I must be out of touch because I'd never heard of them before, but they look like they could be fun.

Here's one in Chicago: http://www.escapehousechicago.com/

They would need to serve beer and have a bathroom in the room.

You drink plenty beforehand.

It's great with a big group of people.

Had a friend that go did one recently. Mentuon fit was fun but they got paired up with another group that included an emo teen who clearly did it want to be there so that kind of made it a bit more difficult.

It doesn’t appeal to me in any great way except to perhaps make my teen interact with her family in a public setting.

Thought about it a few times. Seems like something that would be cool with a group of chicks. Groupon always has deals on them.

Did one for my daughters 13th birthday. They all really loved it. I stayed in the room to give them pointers if they got stuck but I’ll be honest - many times I had no idea what to do. I’d imagine it would be a blast while embibing but it’s confusing even while sober.

This can be a fun party game depending on the group of people you are with. It's basically the same concept but it's a one time use board game where you are given clues to get out.

https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/203416/exit-game-pharaohs-tomb

We played it with my friends and it was pretty cool but also a little frustrating at times because there is one booklet that has to be shared with 5 people.

I've done a couple. We did one in Elk Grove Village that was HH Holmes themed.

I always loved room escape computer games, so when they finally made real life versions, I loved it. Definitely a good idea to get a big group of people and people who are willing to try and not totally fuck around. But also a good idea to get some drinks in you beforehand.

i've done 2, and the 2nd one was in the city, down the street from the Safe House (ripoff). we did "Mission to Mars", and finished it. i hate how they merchandise it though. you can't buy a tee shirt unless you finish it, but it's $15 for a shirt? fuck that, give me the shirt! We already paid like $50 to get in.

it is pretty fun, and you definitely need 6-8 people.

would be a great premise for a "twilight zone" or "outer limits" episode too.

My wife and I did one a year ago (yeah, we're at that stage in our lives - pathetic).

It was fun, and I would do it again but we got grouped with 5 people that were "veterans", and they just went in there and tore apart the room. The didn't really follow the "clues" type format.

My wife and friends and I have done. One where the four of us were in the room with four other people we know (It was a jailbreak scenario) fun, but the other people were idiots so that was annoying. The second time we did it we had only our friends with us, much better and more fun (plus it was a Harry Potter themed room, so we liked it better because we are nerds).

We usually do a family outing a couple weeks before Christmas where we take a Sunday and go into the city and do whatever. Well, we were struggling to find things a few years ago that would appeal to a 17 year old girl and a 9 year old boy, and that's when I stumbled upon Fox In A Box. So we went down there and it is in the basement of an office building in the Loop... the 9 year old reads all the signs on the front of the building -- "We're going to family counseling!?!?" But we weren't, we were going to rob a bank.

It was really fun and at that location, they only do parties from 3-5 (they will let you go 6, but it is tight quarters at that point.) Our first year, we didn't know what we were doing, but they gave us hints over the loudspeaker and we got most of the way through -- had one last obstacle we couldn't get through. The youngest one enjoyed a lot of the physical aspects because there are cabinets to search through, keys to find, etc. The older kids understood some of the puzzles and enjoyed working through those. It was completely a hit, and we've since gone back two more years and really enjoyed them all. We "won" the last two -- it gets easier after you have done them a few times because there's only so many ways to hide a combination lock code. The kids love it and will talk about it for a couple weeks afterwards.

http://www.foxinaboxchicago.com/

I know there are others that have a zombie chained to a wall and the chain gets looser every five minutes -- those have like 12 people going at once... I would think that would be fun if it was all your friends and stuff, but if you didn't book the whole thing, I would be afraid of ending up with some drunken riff-raff that would ruin the experience.
