Trump cancelled his visit because the entire British government lost its marbles that somebody would dare insult their pet Muslims. Same country that just forked over £57b divorce bill with the EU. I heard about the arrogance and hating Americans but I thought it was more fiction than fact. When I got there, there was some truth in it. Here's what I mean. The French were/are so proud of their Frenchness. It's like you are not allowed to be French by their rules. Even if you have lived there for decades. So when these immigrants from muslim countries immigrate there, I tend to think they are not allowed to assimilate . Is that right? I agree a lot has to do with one's own desires, but unlike here, I feel like immigrants there have to contend with this French cultural arrogance. Like how dare you try to become a Frenchman or Frenchwoman!?!? It is sort of what I felt there just visiting and it was so foreign to me. Here, we want you to come here and become an American. We want you to assimilate and learn our language and our culture. You have to or you won't get a job or have much opportunities open to you. But in France, it felt like that was a big hurdle for these people to overcome. Let me know your thoughts America. Like I said, this is like 20 years ago so I'm sure things have changed. |
