Your first inclination is to probably explain it away, that you misinterpreted what was happening.

Upon further review, it turns to "That senator grabbed my ass!"

Yeah, sure, and then it becomes something to joke about with your girlfriends- "Al Franken grabbed my ass!  "- rather than some traumatic event that you can't get past and that has a grand effect on the rest of your life moving forward.

The point being that while Franken may be a creep, we seem to be getting confused about the difference between him and, say, Harvey Weinstein, just for example.

Agree 100%. What Franken has done isn't right, but it pales to Weinstein, Lauer, etc (at least what we know so far).

Smart move by the Dems. Put pressure on two guys to resign in safe Dem areas. Then they can shift to framing the Republicans as the party of sexual assault in the upcoming election cycle.

Democrats line up to call for Al Franken's resignation; senator plans 'announcement' Thursday

Jacob Pramuk | @jacobpramuk
Fourteen Democratic senators and the DNC chief urged Sen. Al Franken to resign Wednesday following the latest sexual misconduct allegation against him.

After the resignation calls, Franken's office said the senator would make an "announcement" on Thursday. It didn't elaborate.

Franken tweet

Earlier Wednesday, Politico reported that a former Democratic congressional aide is accusing the Minnesota Democrat of forcibly trying to kiss her 11 years ago, adding to a string of allegations against him.

In a statement before the calls for his resignation started, Franken denied the latest accusation against him.

In a succession of statements Wednesday, 14 of Franken's Senate Democratic colleagues — nearly a third of the party's caucus — pushed for him to step down. Among them was Patty Murray of Washington, the third-ranking Senate Democrat.

Democratic National Committee Chairman Tom Perez also tweeted that Franken should step down.

Here are the Democratic senators, mostly women, who have called for him to step down:

Kirsten Gillibrand of New York
Mazie Hirono of Hawaii
Claire McCaskill of Missouri
Maggie Hassan of New Hampshire
Patty Murray of Washington
Kamala Harris of California
Tammy Baldwin of Wisconsin
Debbie Stabenow of Michigan
Bob Casey of Pennsylvania
Joe Donnelly of Indiana
Sherrod Brown of Ohio
Heidi Heitkamp of North Dakota
Ed Markey of Massachusetts
Michael Bennet of Colorado

In addition, Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, also said Franken should resign.

In the statements, the senators used words like "egregious" and "unacceptable" to describe Franken's behavior.

The unidentified former aide who spoke to Politico said the incident took place after a taping of Franken's radio show, before he was a senator.

"'It's my right as an entertainer,'" the woman says Franken told her after she avoided his kiss.

In response to the claim, Franken said: "This allegation is categorically not true and the idea that I would claim this as my right as an entertainer is preposterous. I look forward to fully cooperating with the ongoing ethics committee investigation."
Senator Al Franken talks to the media outside his office on Capitol Hill in Washington, U.S., November 27, 2017.

Franken is among multiple members of Congress who have faced harassment accusations recently. Rep. John Conyers, D-Mich., stepped down Tuesday after more than 50 years in Congress following former staffers' allegations of misconduct.

The push for Franken's resignation also comes as ex-judge Roy Moore runs for Senate in Alabama amid allegations of sexual misconduct with teenagers when he was in his 30s decades ago.

The new accuser says that Franken justified the attempted kiss as "his right as an entertainer"? Who would say something like that?

As noted by others, the dems had to sacrifice Franken to keep the moral high ground on Moore.

On another note, when Michael Jordon was on SNL with Stuart Smally it was one of the funniest sketches ever.

If the photo from the first accuser did not exist, he would not have resigned.

This should make Bill O'Reilly smile. He always hated Franken and used to call him Stuart Smalley in a mocking tone. Now the two of them can hang out and discuss how they are more similar than they realized.

He had to. That photo was more sophomoric than anything but the numerous women who claimed he HWed them while taking a photo or forcibly kissed them was more than enough to ask him to resign. Even though rape and groping aren't the same Democrats couldn't demand Republicans stand up to Moore if they weren't going to do the same to Franken. They sacrificed a safe seat and they gained more of the moral high ground than they already had.

Roy Moore will probably win anyway. The moral high ground isn't real.

My place of employment conducted an internal diversity and inclusion survey of all employees fairly recently.

I saw the data not too long ago.

One of the more interesting results was that in areas supervised by women, complaints about gender-based mistreatment were slightly more prevalent than in areas supervised by men.
