It's actually quite interesting, because now you'll see political sides bogarting tactics of the other in cases such as these.

Conservatives and whites will begin with disingenuous, oversimplifications of the facts ("He was holding the gun, the gun went off, and now this girl is dead—but no, not guilty of a crime; THIS is America now.").

Liberals/Progressives will rush in, quoting the statutory definition of manslaughter in California and applying the facts to it juuuuust so. (It's not often you see Spiral flex his legal muscle on the board, I wonder what got his juices going regarding this?)

The former group will then try to deny the reasonable doubt that is created by a likewise reasonable application and interpretation of the facts and evidence because, well, HE KILLED A WOMAN.

This is a worse verdict than the OJ Simpson trial. If anything this verdict means they will build The Wall.

None of us sat on that jury. I'm not going to criticize the people who did and who actually heard the evidence.

But I will say it's one hell of a coincidence that a guy who has a long criminal record and who had repeatedly been deported just happened to be in the wrong place and found a stolen gun on the ground, picked it up and had it inadvertently go off in his hand and kill a woman. If you're that unlucky you should probably be locked up just on general principle.

Actually, now that I think about it the optics were so absurd that the prosecutor really had no choice but to try it. The victim was a pretty blonde woman and the illegal looks so foreign that you really don't even think Mexican--the guy looks indigenous, like an Aztec or Mayan something. Then on top of it, she was so hot that Trump had to get involved--she was straight off the Fox News Update Anchor Farm. He would never align with an ugly murder victim, or god forbid an African American woman in one of SFs seedier areas. That story would have come and gone in a day.

I don't know. My guess is that the arrest warrant which was unsealed today is a bit different than the administrative request made by ICE to hold Garcia Zarate for deportation when he was originally arrested in San Francisco on the old drug charge, and the local authorities will facilitate the federal warrant.

So does SF give him up this time?
