HOLY SHIT,DID ANYONE ELSE NOTICE THIS?

North must have been swimming in red ink since 1994 or so.

Property Tax

Year Taxes Land Additions Total Assessment
2016 $14,159 $6,285 + $47,815 = $54,100
2015 $15,372 $5,499 + $46,965 = $52,464
2014 $15,086 $5,499 + $46,965 = $52,464

He should have gotten out of that house the second he lost the Score gig.

There are some decent homes out there. Del Webb actually uses architects who can design something tasteful. There's a small farm in the middle of the development. At least there was last time I was out there. Obviously some hillbilly who refused to sell out. It looked kind of strange. That reminds me one night we were out there plowing at about midnight. It was snowing like a motherfucker and about ten below zero. I turned the corner in the truck- and i shit you not- a herd of 20-30 deer was rambling toward me.

On a related note, good advice from Phil Ponce last night. Access your second installment tax bill online and pay it before the end of the year so you can take it as a deduction in 2017 since that deduction is likely to be gone next year.

 I actually liked that little development. They got a clubhouse and the homes look like something out of "Leave it to Beaver". It just takes forever to get there or at least it seemed that way.

I've said a few times that I cannot figure out why he didn't open another hot dog stand while at his height. He has enough family to run the place where he would only have to lend his name and a little energy like Ditka with his places. He could have had Hot Doug type lines back in those days

I agree with you on that. North missed that. That could have been a big money maker for North. Not just one. He should have opened 4 or 5. Just hire a managers to run the joints. He had a radio show for free advertisement.

jimmypasta clearly doesnt own a home if i am to assume from your post you think north is paying $54k a year in property taxes... the bold numbers are what he pays a year.

FWIW he's only paying taxes on a market value of $541k (or something near that number) so if the house actually is a $1M home then he's getting a nice break on his property taxes...

I'm looking at a Del Webb development in the Raleigh suburbs. Lots of housing stock with between 1400-1600 sf, although since it's less than ten years old not a lot of people have died yet so there isn't a lot for sale.

I thought Raleigh was a Del Webb development.

North saddens me. His entire identity was wrapped in being Chicago. All his friends had blue collar Chicago jobs. All of his favorite haunts were within the border. All of his family and memories involved Chicago. His politics were informed by the political affiliations of his family (whose affiliations helped him get a job at one point) and friends.

He made some money and not only moved out of Chicago but moved to the most bourgeois of suburbs. He seemed to distance himself spatially and emotionally from all those old family and friends. He became rabidly political, rather having a passing interest and lost interest in sports. Now he is in Huntley and Las Vegas. His movement is like an allegory for the loss of his soul.

Maybe I'm reading it wrong. Maybe all of his friends retired out to LV and he is going there to join them.

It just seems to me that he was beloved by this city, turned his back on it and now is empty.

The above is well said, but some of the same can go for his career.

He was the street guy who made it big on the radio, then he overvalued himself. I don't have any doubt he would still be on the Score today if he just accepted their (generous) terms and continued to be a goofball on the air.

Instead he played the pretend tough guy, and got sent packing. Then he became a vagabond in the radio/entertainment world, and to your point largely closed out his career unattached to the market and city that defined him.

Hey,thanks! I might be doing that.

Also true for other things you may itemize today. E.g., charitable donations or estimated state income taxes. My church is doing a 3 year addition, so I made a 3 year pledge. I’m going to frontload it this year by paying the majority now.

Living up to your name, eh?

For me, lots of reasons. A large supply of contract jobs so I can work just 3-4 months a year to pay my expenses and not eat into my retirement income. Better weather most of the time while still having all four seasons. Hospitals almost as good as Chicago. A chance to live much closer to things than I do here for the same money, right now my commute is over an hour most days. And a lot more interesting places within a day's drive than I have here, which will be useful when I'm not working every week.

And it beats the hell out of moving to Huntley or Las Vegas like old broke mobster wannabe Pappy.

From Trib... New Tax Plan

Among other compromises, the final bill will allow mortgage interest deductions on loans up to $750,000, and deductions for state and local income or property taxes up to $10,000.

You gotta have huge balls or don't want to move if you ask that much for a vinyl sided house.

I prefer brick n stone but if you are going siding atleast go smart siding or hardy board. This home is much newer and less expensive..it's also modern throughout..nice roof lines too.

the facade is butt. way too much going on in front.

browsing the interior...the rooms are all fucked up with weird angles and corners. bad house.

That house is in a pretty bad location on Touhy. And the surrounding residences seem pretty run down. A lot of people looking in this price range won't even bother checking out a place on a busy street like that.

Busy street bad..agreed.. Was only looking at hardwood and tile n baths..it's updated to sell.

Property Tax

Year Taxes Land Additions Total Assessment
2016 $14,159 $6,285 + $47,815 = $54,100
2015 $15,372 $5,499 + $46,965 = $52,464
2014 $15,086 $5,499 + $46,965 = $52,464

He should have gotten out of that house the second he lost the Score gig.

He should have never bought that house to begin with. It was just him and his wife and they were in there 40s when he bought it. Get a nice 300k condo. That's all they needed. But North thought he was gonna be making 1.5 million per year for 25 years.

North must have been swimming in red ink since 1994 or so.

But if he took his old financial guy, Dr. J, advice, he’s still fine. Seriously, assume he paid off this house years ago when he was earning. Then, he pays only taxes which are only $1200 per month. Cheaper than rent, no HOA dues, write off that $1200 off your taxes...pretty cheap way to live. If it goes up in value, great. If it drops a bit, not the end of the world. As he approaches being a senior citizen, taxes get frozen. This was not some horrible investment. It’s just very, very ugly and dated.

Do you seriously think he was financially responsible back in his hey day? You believe that he paid off his house? That's not really even a shot at North as I wouldn't have done any better if I thought the gravy train would continue...and why wouldn't he? I really doubt he saw this sudden downturn in his income coming.

Well if he didn’t pay it off he’s been making the nut on it for a lot of years now despite not really having a discernible income . He must’ve done something right financially along the way.

He was doing a syndicated Fox Sports Radio show for a few years, I thought? Wasn't it in the mornings?

North built this house in 00' ? Back then you could build that for 105$ a sqft.. Plus 200k for lot..he's got that paid off for a long time.. The guy has no kids and his old lady probably controls the books..he's probably made 4 million plus in the last 20 years.

Agreed. Even if he did something simple, like convert to a 15 year mortgage, he paid it off.
