Now that I look closer, I don't think that is Mike. I think its some sort of cardboard cutout of him

"Hey, Be, put my fathead in da corner before dat real estay guy takes da pitcher, will ya?"

That's a fathead that Mike created for a local garbage company.

"Hey Be, get my fathead outta da closet before Eddie Heil stops by, will ya?"

Hey Be, can you get the guys from Flud Bruderz on the line?"

What would be the reason for the cleveland browns helmet on top of the bowling game?

I can barely grow hair on my face now.

I had to shave once every ten days in 1983.

Why buy such a big house with no kids? 4 bedrooms. At that point they knew they weren't having kids.

Not to mention the fact that he bought 2 lots later on planning to build a MEGA PAPPY LAND. Why? Then he realized he couldn't afford it and sold the lots for a loss.

I thought he built this house.

He did. He bought the other 2 lots to build his house and his BIL and family would build on the other lot.

He will make money on this house, Even if you have no kids you gotta build a house for re sale with 3 beds mininum. If the housing market didnt crash he'd have cleaned up on those lots.

Looks like fun on the surface, but probably a shit ton of updating needed that will cost a fortune... Especially once the basement is denorthified.

This is weird, but his house sort of makes me sad. There was a time (back when that gaudy house was built) that The Monsters of The Midday we’re must listen radio for me. I grew to despise North, but I initially loved his “ telling it like it is.” That was new back then.

There was a time when he could have hosted the Heavy Fuel Crew and bunch of ‘85 Bears in that basement for a poker game and party. Now, he’d struggle to get 5 guys from this board to show up.

I go to Vegas for work pretty frequenty. After about 50 trips, I can’t stand the place (unless you’re still under age 35 and single). It’s just fake. Plastic. Phony opulence. Hard to describe, but it would be a horrible place to retire, IMO.

It's a perfect place to retire if you think in real life you're Robert DeNiro's character from Casino.

I doubt he'll make money on it. If I was him In the mid 90s, with his big money job, I'd just buy a really nice 2 bedroom condo. With no kids, why not do that?

If you add the property taxes through the years and what he bought it for then, no way he makes money on the resale. 1995 was the inflated house era. It's recovered some, but not enough to make a profit. It will be a loss.

I know he wanted to show off at the time. Were those 4 or 5 parties he hosted per year worth that big house?

He thought he was gonna be making 1 million per year for the next 20 years at the time.

Then he lost his big money job. Had to sell the lots for PAPPY LAND II. Why are you going to a bigger house in your 50s with no kids? He's not a street smart guy. Which was his entire image for years. WEBIO!!!!!

He was on Mac's podcast today. I fell asleep after about five minutes of listening tonight, but he said he has moved to Huntley. (Probably doing the Del Webb thing.)

Serious question - do people really think they are living a movie? I don't know anyone or knew anyone like that. Seems like Pappy thinks he's in Goodfellas or some mob flick. A bit too much.

I'm living the Illuminatus! trilogy for what it's worth. Or well, a hybrid of that with doctor who, Dragonball Z, and the matrix for good measure. and of course you know who I am but you have to pretend you don't.... But hey dont worry I finally told IMU to knock off the bullshit so soon it will be ok to admit thst I'm pretty fucking awesome snd you're all big fans =P

Only guessing but if his mother in law is still alive he might want a maintenance free pad in the area but still be in Vegas most of the time.

the attempt to recreate the town bar in your basement where your only drink options are natty ice, caffine free diet coke, and like weird old bottles of malort and peppermint schnapps, is usually always a bad idea.

these shrines of a different time sit in basements all over suburbia getting dusty with totes of christmas decorations set atop the pool table

You guys are insane. That looks like an awesome house needing only some cosmetic changes for personal taste...like every other house on the market. First thing everyone does upon buying is to install new carpeting and refinishing the floors. Then you end up living with your choices far beyond the date they become obsolete.

the exterior of the house for me is awesome.

Post subject:  Re: Pappyland is for Sale

my biggest complaint of the house would be the yard size. It's a corner house where site plans can be a little difficult but they took up half the green space by not front loading the garage. I'd take the exchange for a bigger yard and just spending more on a nicer garage door.

It's beautiful home as is.

There are a couple of houses just south of his that make his place look like a shed.

It's certainly not the worst McMansion I've ever seen, but it does have architectural oddities like mismatched windows, unrelated gables, and various materials on the facade. I wouldn't call it an atrocity on the level that qualifies it for McMansion Hell, but I'd rather live in a typical Chicago bungalow.

It is not nearly as bad as some people in this thread think, but on the flip side, "awesome" and "beautiful" are not accurate descriptions of the place.
