Anybody here a member at a Planet Fitness? They are building one halfway between my work and home and the place I belong to is actually
pretty gross and some of their equipment doesn't work. Pretty much a no brainer to switch and the price is comparable, just wanted to see
what members thought about it.

My kid likes it a lot. Many extras included in her rate.

Yeah, you can buy the upgraded membership for $20 a month rather than the $10 plan. I just noticed that they don't have any free weights there.
I don't do a whole lot of free weights anyway but would be nice to have the option.

I was a member at the one in Naperville years back.

The Pros:
- Cheap rates - $10 down and $10 per month back then.
- Free pizza once a month
- Lack of meatheads and Crossfit Douche types

The Cons
- Free pizza once a month negates any workout you did
- Lack of variety - not much for classes or other style workouts. Pretty much just aerobic machines and weights and cable machines.

It's fine if you want to work out, but not work out that hard. Don't want to set off the Lunk Alarm.

Big Fan.

My work offers us a 'discount' to FFC which is like 75 a month. Recently dropped that and joined a local PF. I just need some treadmills and machines, so covers all my bases.

I go as a guest with a colleague sometimes. It is fine, but I prefer my place (Zip Fitness). They are very similar except Planet Fitness has brown paper towels and spray bottles. I prefer the wet wipes.

Nice, this is kind of what I am looking for. The place I go has worn out equipment and is dirty. This place looks like it has no shortage of
machines. It is currently being built so everything should be brand new. I also work out at different times than most so that should help
with machine availability. I think I'll go with the upgraded membership so I can use any location and they have a few other perks.

I've never been a member but their business model is to way oversell memberships and then make it nice enough to keep your membership, cheap enough to not care about keeping your membership even if you don't go, but ultimately promote a lifestyle where you just don't workout that much but you have a gym membership so at least you are trying. From what I've heard, it's only really an issue during the peak hours in terms of equipment, and mostly in the first month or two of the year when people all try and work out.

So, if you don't plan to work out much then get a membership there.

I wouldn’t have gone there when I was a 20 YO meathead, but it’s fine now. Cheap and convenient.

Mine doesn’t have a lot of true free weights, but it does have a number of Smith machines and dumbbells.

I'm mostly there at 5am or 3pm so probably lighter traffic than 5:30-7pm. it does appear to actively promote an attitude of inclusion and
shame-free working out. I have no problem with that since I am no Adonis myself. I need a place where I can use a clean cardio machine
that works and nautilus type equipment and the Smith Machine for heavier lifting should be fine for what I am looking for. You are also right
about people getting on the workout train and then fading out. Since this is opening brand new May 1st I would assume it would be busy at
first but the fact that it is pretty much summer time, people will be more inclined to doing things outside.

"Attitude of inclusion" seems to be the message all of these Planet Fitness, Zip Fitness, Anytime Fitness, etc.

My gym has started slowing down from the resolution crowd. Monday and Tuesday after work are the busiest, but yesterday was actually sort of slow.

Planet Fitness crowd seems slightly more into lifting than cardio, based on how few treadmills, bikes, ellipticals and stairmasters seem to be used the few times I've been there.
