Big new thing in China apparently. The Chinese government and private companies are developing a “social credit score” for individuals. On top of credit score things like repaying loans and shit, it would also keep track of your activities, violations like traffic tickets, and recorded acts of dishonesty like cheating/plagiarism in college. I can’t really see something like this catching on here.

So it's bizarro Facebook. No one is stupid enough to propose it here.

Kind of makes you wonder about our coming commercial overlords though.

Not for lack of trying; the idea of documenting everyone's tiny social transgressions and holding them against people forever sounds far more American than it does Chinese.

Now that I think about it, this quote could have easily come from DiCaro as well.

Don't we already have that? Many people willingly give this information away, and other info like this can be found easily by anyone with time.

Welcome serfdom!

Or: What would they call Big Brother in China? Big Wang? This is terrifying. Reminds me of the Yelp for People.

I don’t think we have anything close to a social credit scoring system. We just bitch about each other online.

We do--at least when you are a candidate for a job. We willingly feed into it, too. I'm terrified of when a student discovers me on here (because of all the intentionally non-PC things I say).

Recorded acts of dishonesty....my goodness.

I wonder how badly you get dinged for not paying off a $1000 bet on a message board.

While not linked together we do stuff like this here in the US. You have the doctors medical file, you have a file that follows you during
your elementary and high school years and I am pretty sure that your HR dept has a file on you as well. Not to mention your police/FBI file.
