So wait , if Sam Ponder , Sarah Spain and all who were so upset about the ESPN / Barstool partnership that they wrote emails to Skipper about it , shouldn’t they be quitting today now that the place where they work is so toxic ?

No, they need to change that place.

https://nypost.com/2017/12/15/espns-agg ... exchanges/

There are screenshots of their texts in the link above.

ESPN has released text exchanges between former employee Adrienne Lawrence and “SportsCenter” anchor John Buccigross, who is at the center of the Boston Globe’s expository piece detailing the alleged mistreatment of women at the Worldwide Leader’s Bristol, Conn., compound.

Lawrence has accused Buccigross of “sending unsolicited shirtless photographs of himself and calling her ‘dollface,’ ‘#dreamgirl,’ and ‘longlegs,'” in the messages reviewed by the Globe. In response to the complaint she and a lawyer filed against ESPN over the summer, the network deduced the pair “had a consensual, personal friendship that spanned months.”

Though the shirtless photographs were omitted, the conversation, dated between June 4, 2016 through Sept. 7, 2016, ranges from discussing dinner meetings to music tastes and smiley face emojis. Buccigross calls Lawrence “dollface” and “doll” on three occasions.

ESPN maintains Lawrence’s allegations are “entirely without merit.”

Lawrence released a statement after the text messages were released.

“As for ESPN’s recent behavior, its decisions to (i) single me out, (ii) ignore my key allegations, which ESPN knows are far broader than text messages and photos, and then (iii) release select, self-serving text messages, only further evidences the culture of this network and the lengths it will go and the unethical means it will employ to try and silence women,” she said in part.

“We conducted a thorough investigation and found these claims to be entirely without merit,” ESPN spokeswoman Katina Arnold said Thursday in a statement. “Lawrence was hired into a two-year talent development program and was told that her contract would not be renewed at the conclusion of the training program. At that same time, ESPN also told 100 other talent with substantially more experience, that their contracts would not be renewed. The company will vigorously defend its position and we are confident we will prevail in court.”

ESPN also published an item Thursday detailing how women of the network, including NBA analyst Doris Burke and “NFL Countdown” host Sam Ponder, continue to break barriers.

Lawrence, however, believes the toxicity of ESPN’s work environment runs deep.

“ESPN has failed to address its deeply ingrained culture of sexism and hostile treatment of women,” Lawrence said, according to the Globe. She also alleged male employees make sexual and romantic advances under the guise of networking or mentoring and “mark” female colleagues by spreading rumors of sexual relationships.

Link to Lawrence's statement: https://twitter.com/AdrienneLaw/status/ ... changes%2F

Lawrence said she complained to HR after rumors of an alleged relationship between her and Buccigross continued to spread. She claims a supervisor told her to drop it and believes ESPN retaliated by limiting her airtime and passing her over for a full-time position. A male received the job offer instead.

Buccigross confirmed he had sent photos to Lawrence, but didn’t mean to offend her.

“I considered Adrienne to be a friend,” Buccigross said in a statement to the Globe. “I’m sorry if anything I did or said offended Adrienne. It certainly wasn’t my intent.”

The Globe story also detailed several issues women had at ESPN before, during and after getting pregnant, including former anchor Sara Walsh feeling pressured to work through a miscarriage.

ESPN suspended former NFL players Donovan McNabb and Eric Smith, who have radio programs with them, this week in response to a lawsuit filed by a former NFL Network stylist, accusing both of sexual misconduct.

Am I missing what Buccigross did that was harassment? It may have been annoying, but it doesn't seem like it was persistent, vulgar, or harassing.

I'm not really seeing this either. I mean, it would be better to not send a photo like that but it's not harassment either.

Calling someone "dollface" probably isn't the best idea. And who even uses that term? Was this guy born in 1927?

 I used to rent an office to this old guy who was in advertising. He would make up these ads for toy stores and pornographers using actual cut-and-paste methods with paper and mucilage. One day I tried to show him how to use software and I whipped out an awesome looking ad for him. He got all sad and said, "Uh, I prefer to do it my way." Anyway, this guy was born around 1927 and he used the term "dollface" all the time.

It does depend on the relationship they have though. The problem is that we don't know what she said to him and from what I can gather this was more of a co-worker thing than it was someone who works as a support person like it as for someone like Matt Lauer.

The published text exchange seems totally innocuous.

"Lawrence said she complained to HR after rumors of an alleged relationship between her and Buccigross continued to spread."

Judging by those text messages it seems pretty clear they did have a relationship, and Buccigross calling her doll, dollface, or saying #longlegs does not seem unusual given the friendly and flirty nature of their texts.

Unless there are other things, damning things, that have not been made public it's ridiculous that he is being lumped in with guys who have legitimately harassed people.

Yeah, I’d be fucking furious if I was him. He’s done absolutely nothing wrong and hes getting his private texts published and being called a harasser by national publications and shit.

Agreed. If that is what these people think constitutes a hostile work environment or sexual harrassment, then get ready for more years of Trump or similar.

"Longlegs"? That was his direct, immediate response to her saying she promised not to adjust his office chair after she sat in it.

The other thing is that she consistently sought opportunities to socialize with him outside of the workplace. She was initiating all kinds of contact with him!

The Globe published more texts between the two. I still don’t see anything wrong at all here.

Can Bucci sue the Globe? This is some pretty shameful shit from a major newspaper.

I can't believe I read all the text messages between John Buccigross and Adrienne Lawrence, but I did. They were both friendly and a little flirty to each other, and I don't see where he was anything but supportive and nice to her. She even thanked him for all of his guidance.

She seemed to have a problem with one of her female producers at ESPN not giving her enough camera time, and she was writing a letter to the U.S. Attorney's Office in Connecticut to complain about a restaurant always seating her in the back even when it's empty.

Unlikely. Even if the Globe acted with malice or reckless disregard for whether their statements were true, he'd still have to prove damages

So Bucci is the first guy to get “exposed” who did nothing wrong, right? Wonder how much more that will happen if there’s essentially no repercussions for it.

Jeremy Piven had a thing where a girl he was dating at the time alleged that he sexually harassed her on some set, and his response was "uhh...we were dating and I hugged you".

But this is the first case I'm aware of where someone (or an outlet) professes to have the "smoking gun" proving harassment, and the evidence turns out to be almost completely innocuous.

Is this black girl no longer with ESPN? Is the cracker guy that she hates still with ESPN?

I don't watch it anymore. Don't know either of them.
