Mrs. Ugie and I are hoping to start a family. Given today's social climate, we had a discussion on whether it would be easier to raise a boy or a girl today.

Thoughts?

Boys are always easier because you have less drama to worry about in the teenage years.

I think both have their challenges. Selfishly, I would rather have a boy simply for the sports aspect. I can still teach a girl how to golf and play guitar though.

#1 thing is a healthy child.

My daughters have been easier to raise but I would still take boys. I worry about everything with my daughters and it's only going to get worse.

Boys.

Girls are manipulative monsters who only get worse as they get older.

When your son doesn't love sports the way you do it will drive you crazy.

I’m raising both. Up until last two years I’d have said my daughter was easier. Then she became a miniature version, well not so miniature as she’s now taller than her mom, of my wife. My boys, being miniature versions of me still drive me up the friggen Wall.

Or worse when he likes soccer more than baseball.

He said sports, not running around aimlessly on a grass field.

My boys are not into sports. I keep hoping it’s going to change but it’s not happening. About as close as it has gotten is finding that my oldest playing an old ncaa football game on the Xbox. Heaven forbid they sit down and watch a game with dad though.

You literally can't spell manipulative without "man" tho...

Girls.

Less likely to get peed on. Unless you're in to that sort of thing...

DOES. NOT. HAPPEN. Both of my boys pissed in my face the day after they were born and they never did it again. My daughter shit on my shirt as I was leaving to go to a work appointment.

hands down my daughter has been much easier to raise than my son. in fairness though she is younger and i think has learned a lot just watching him get in trouble over and over and over. i think the second-born kid has an advantage learning from the older kids mistakes, regardless of gender.

Never had one of the girls shit directly on me...however, in multiple instances, I've had them continue to shit mid diaper change...

Closest I ever got to one of them peeing on me was my oldest daughter soaking through her diaper while I was carrying her in the mall. That was a change of clothes for her, and a trip to Penney's for a new shirt to get through the rest of the day.

I'll hope for gender non-specific.

Mrs. Ungotz and I have 2 boys; 11-13. When they were born I got down on my knees and thanked whatever entity in the heavens that made it possible. Once I checked that they had all 20 digits and that they were not webbed* and checked to make sure there was no tail I was quite relieved.

I have been a high school teacher for 23 years.......teenage girls are the worst kind of human. They never shut up.....roll their eyes..they are never wrong....they are loud, moody, angry and pissed off about EVERYTHING... in general just horrible to be around.

Also, I think i would have a difficult time with someone trying to get into my daughter's pants. Even a husband if she were married. Not sure how I would deal with that.

* webbed feet would be a benefit to becoming an Olympic swimmer perhaps

have 3 girls. 7, 10, and 12. its been great, but thats all behind us i believe. would i have liked a boy? yes. but only for selfish sports/outdoors reasons. my kids could enjoy that stuff but they don't really. they just like being with daddy which is great.

I'm sure the teenage girls think you're great too!

one of the things, i'm realizing with my 12 yr old jr higher and i also work at our church with the jr high is that they don't ever stop talking if you let them. they are much more attentive than the boys are, but when they get a chance to talk its nonstop and the things they talk about are almost the stupidest things ever.

now jr high boys are just idiots. like they don't listen, they don't care at all about anything. the things they talk about are somehow even more ridiculous and stupid than what the girls care about.

but at home i walk into more accidental arguments with my wife and jr higher than i care too and i don't generally understand what they are fighting about . the 10 and 7 yr old don't know either but i know their time is coming. and i usually make things worse because i bust out laughing at the ridiculousness of their arguments.

This is correct. Also, when your son does not listen to you when you try and teach him things, it will drive you nuts. With a girl, you just think she takes after her mom. :)

They don't like my class at first. It takes some time for them to realize that I am not trying to be anyone's friend. I have a job to do and they have a job to do. If they need a hug, or a gold star on their forehead to make them feel better about themselves; there are plenty of teachers like that in this school. Teenage girls are very very very mean......and incredibly ready to fight at the drop of a hat. The girl fights in the building are always more violent. The boys are pussies and the girls are vicious.
