a recent epsiode of south park summarized it perfectly... trump's fate lies in the hands of white people (his base). if he slips up and starts losing their support... it will be a quick decline.

to reference another cartoon show, trump's ability to shrug off any negative news is impressive... it's almost like how mr. burns was diagnosed with every diasease

I don't understand on either side why contact with Russia would be necessary. There are many great opponent researchers out there, real weasely shit heals with no principles who get off on destroying others, who could have found out information while providing plausible deniability.

Lester Lawrence "Larry" Lessig III (born June 3, 1961) is an American academic, attorney, and political activist. He is the Roy L. Furman Professor of Law at Harvard Law School and the former director of the Edmond J. Safra Center for Ethics at Harvard University. Lessig was a candidate for the Democratic Party's nomination for President of the United States in the 2016 U.S. presidential election, but withdrew before the primaries.

Lessig is a proponent of reduced legal restrictions on copyright, trademark, and radio frequency spectrum, particularly in technology applications. In 2001, he founded Creative Commons, a non-profit organization devoted to expanding the range of creative works available for others to build upon and to share legally. Prior to his most recent appointment at Harvard, he was a professor of law at Stanford Law School, where he founded the Center for Internet and Society, and at the University of Chicago. He is a former board member of the Free Software Foundation and Software Freedom Law Center; the Washington, D.C. lobbying groups Public Knowledge and Free Press; and the Electronic Frontier Foundation.

As a political activist, Lessig has called for state-based activism to promote substantive reform of government with a Second Constitutional Convention. In May 2014, he launched a crowd-funded political action committee which he termed Mayday PAC with the purpose of electing candidates to Congress who would pass campaign finance reform. Lessig is also the co-founder of Rootstrikers, and is on the boards of MapLight and Represent.Us.[5] He serves on the advisory boards of the Democracy Café and the Sunlight Foundation.

RPB wins again. Old Dumbfuck Bob incapable of a serious discussion resorts to ad hominem.

I read both Chicago papers everyday and consume a lot of other media. I'm pretty comfortable in saying that nobody who posts here is any more informed than I am.

In every presidential election there is a large segment of the population that is unhappy with the outcome, but I've never seen an attempt to make a person's vote the barometer for measuring his character until Trump was elected. Although there are countless reasons why people vote for a candidate and they really shouldn't be questioned, the pussy hat people, like their leader before them, have declared Trump voters "deplorable". That's a real problem for the country. A lot of people voted for Clinton for no other reason than that she has a vagina. I think that's pretty dumb, but I don't want to take their votes away and I don't think they're deplorable for doing such a thing.

Thank you. Never heard of the guy and was curious why his hypothetical scenario mattered. Now that I think about it I'm a 35 year old citizen they should probably make me president when Trump is arrested and hanged. I’m healthier than Hillary.

There is no defending that article. It wasn't even written by the Lessig guy. It was written by Maya Rajamani and recapping an essay written by Lessig on something called "the Medium" in October. Literally someone writing an article about an essay that someone else wrote 4 months ago. Just click bait to bring Hillary back in the news.

As far as votes = barometer for character

Many people labeled Obama voters as cop hating socialists.

The article is ridiculous on its face, but not unique in having a political agenda or for discussing hypotheticals, right or wrong.

Certainly worse was the Chicago Daily Tribune's "Dewey Defeats Truman" article, which was flat-out false.

You've got to be kidding. This very thing was the essence of the Anti-Communist phony Craze starting in the 40's, the Southern Strategy starting in the 60's and Values Voters of the 80's. Those together with the ridiculous assertions that Democratic voters/leaders are soft headed, unpatriotic, limp wristed, soft on crime and are Bad! for the military and our "world standing" have been the core planks in every republican platform since 1952.

Even now your words belie your argument here and consistent Trump defense. You love the position that "a lot of people voted for Clinton for no other reason than that she has a vagina", because it seems to free your conscience to defend Trump while infantilizing a large portion of the plurality that voted for her. But yet you continually are aggrieved by the assertions that many never Trumpers see primarily him as a bigot, a liar, a fraud, incompetent and completely incapable of surrounding himself with zealots only interested in lining their pockets in any cynical way possible. And that MANY of his supporters are cut from the same cloth. Then disingenuously claim that you don't find a lot of her voters deplorable, just pretty dumb.

Is it really so hard to understand that defending the way our government is set up has nothing to do with defending Trump?

If we're going to declare those who didn't vote as we did horrible people we may as well end this experiment right now. Because the U.S. no longer exists.

That's a real problem for the country. A lot of people voted for Clinton for no other reason than that she has a vagina. I think that's pretty dumb, but I don't want to take their votes away and I don't think they're deplorable for doing such a thing.

Fantastic post.

I'll give someone who voted for him a pass (reluctantly), but I don't give a pass to anyone who still supports him.

Is it really so hard to understand that defending the way our government is set up has nothing to do with defending Trump?

If we're going to declare those who didn't vote as we did horrible people we may as well end this experiment right now. Because the U.S. no longer exists.

In your mind, were the people who voted for Roy Moore horrible people?

In every presidential election there is a large segment of the population that is unhappy with the outcome, but I've never seen an attempt to make a person's vote the barometer for measuring his character until Trump was elected. Although there are countless reasons why people vote for a candidate and they really shouldn't be questioned, the pussy hat people, like their leader before them, have declared Trump voters "deplorable". Not really. In fact, just typical pussy hat Democratic talking points.
