My neighborhood has had flooding issues for years. To me, they first came to light last summer when we had those massive rains.

There are 3 streets that funnel to a cross street that doesn't have a large enough storm sewer to handle the big rains. It's also a spot that the center of the road is higher than the sidewalk. With these huge rains, the street ponds and overflows the sidewalk. The overflow runs down the back yards of me and my neighbors. I have ended up with rapids running down each of my side lot lines. Last year, that 7" in five hours washed mud and mulch into my pool. Had to pump it out, power wash it and refill it.

Luckily, I get almost nothing in the basement.

I nominated myself as official squeaky wheel with the village engineer.

Pavement too warm to have it stick. Had about 2 inches when I left for work at 6 this morning. We might get another 1/2 inch or so.
My main shovel is broken so looks like I will be buying one at lunch or this weekend. Meant to buy it last weekend but didn't get to it.

This is exactly the type of snow I would like on Christmas morning. Nothing to shovel, but just enough to coat the grass and bushes to give off a nice, serene look to everything.

They even lie about how bad the conditions are when anyone watching can see the roads are fine. Joanie Lum on FOX Chicago was in their Mobile Dipshit Unit one morning like today during rush hour. She was saying how slippery and dangerous the roads were even though viewers could see the roads were wet, but otherwise clear, and cars and frieght trucks were blowing by them.

It chaps my caboose when they're actually out there in properly dangerous driving conditions ... do we need another vehicle on the road? Who does that report help? The drivers aren't (hopefully) watching the report, people at home who ain't goin' nowhere don't need to see it ... just awful. Stand in a tornado or hurricane? Fine, that's entertainment. Driving around to show what driving around looks like? Pass.

One of the guys on my shift works out before work. I got tagged in his text pool this morning (despite being on vacation) warning the other guys about road conditions. There was a car just north of the salt mine entrance fully engulfed in flames. Apparently it hit a fallen tree in the right lane of the four-lane state highway, fire trucks were just pulling up. Several other guys passed cars in the ditch, even the Subaru drivers were slipping and sliding. We did not get enough snow to cover the grass, but the roads slicked up pretty bad. It looks like the major lake-effect is rolling in north of us, Muskegon down to Kalamazoo, last night's news was calling for 4-6 inches.
