I just checked into my hotel in Sau Paulo and I notice a sign on the back of the toilet stating “We kindly ask you not to discard toilet paper or other items in the toilet”. So I look it up on-line to make sure I’m not misinterpreting and sure as sh!t it is correct. There’s a small garbage can next to the john for disposal.

Note: for the record it’s a Marriott, not some random fleabag joint.

I worked with some Mexican guys who had just arrived in the U.S. and they would throw the toilet paper in the garbage can. They had to be advised to flush it down. I think American plumbing must be the gold standard.
