Can you trust police to help you in time?
We're assuming here, of course, you're able to get to the phone.

This is the average time for everyone, correct?

My assumption is that for those in higher crime neighborhoods the response time is worse. Probably makes it more important to find a way to protect yourself until those who say they protect and serve have enough free time to show up.

Dallas police.
Not a small city, not a large city.
My small town maybe half that? A quarter that? Say in my small town they get go from whatever parking lot they're sitting in, hopefully no more than a mile away assuming they're not currently responding to another call, in 4 minutes.
If an armed intruder was in my home could the cops respond in 4 minutes and protect an unarmed homeowner in thatb time?

No. The echo chamber has spoken. All protection will be provided by the <whatever public force>. It is determined no fear is necessary failures are factors.

I would think that high crime areas would have a large or larger than average amount of violent crimes or crimes committed with guns. If you ban guns, you remove that problem in theory.

Not where I live.

If you think you need a gun to protect your home you should probably move.

I think 12 would be pretty fast out here. Almost never see an officer and it’s only county guys. That said, very little need. Most crime is theft from sheds or cars that people left keys in.

Arlington Heights I think it is about 8 seconds. When kids were little sometimes they would play with the cordless phone and hit the 911 speed dial. Cops would appear at the front door before we could hang up the phone.

What is the police response time in your town? Should be able to look it up.

No you definitely can't trust the police to arrive in time to stop an attack on your family.

My assumption is the opposite. Police aren't evenly spread.

Even if you call the police and they show up, the courts have ruled time and time again that they have no legal responsibility or duty to protect you.

If you have a family, arm yourself because the police sure as hell won't protect you.

took about 5-6 minutes here in Oak Park when I called the cops on that degenerate pothead in the alley. by that time he was gone (obviously). If I only had had a gun...

Not the criminals.

I'd also assume they do not go thru proper channels to obtain their firearms.

which once again proves the folly of gun control being a solution

Growing up in the northern suburbs, there was a church parking lot about four blocks from our house where a cop was frequently stationed at night. Response time to our block was about 45 seconds from the time the dispatcher read off the address.

I had to call for an ambulance during my surgery recovery. It was maybe three minutes, certainly not more than four. There are benefits of living in the suburbs.

I saw a story the other day where in some town in rural Montana, 20 people alternated performing CPR on somebody because the nearest ambulance was 90 minutes away. A buddy of mine used to have a cottage in the Hiawatha National Forest, and I asked him once what would happen if somebody had a heart attack there. His answer was "they will die."
