I currently have a friend telling me whiskey and water > whiskey and coke/Diet Coke or drinking it straight because it rehydrates you a little as you drink.

I’m 99% sure this is laughably stupid but the other 1% of me is a bit drunk and unsure.

The 99% part is right, right?

No. Why would you drink watered down booze? On ice is fine but as it melts the less good it is.

Whiskey and coke/pepsi or whiskey and cider. Old fashioned are good no water. that's crazy.

To be clear, even if this was true I would never water down liquor because of it. I just think the premise is equally silly to the drink itself.

Whiskey + Water has more water than straight whiskey.

Whiskey + Coke has water but also caffeine which does have diuretic qualities which would increase water loss as a result.

He's technically right but not in a way that proves anything other than he's a flaming dope if he believes he's given you anything resembling useful knowledge.

Whiskey and (club soda water) water often does taste better than straight liquor imo

You are a tequila and rum guy. Whiskey tastes like watered down crap when it's watered down. I can concede scotch, maybe. And gin with club soda. Vodka can be watered down, but not whiskey.

Nope, the water combines with the whiskey to mellow it in a manner that leaves it much smoother and pleasant-tasting.

Any additional water will lead to increased hydration levels, so that would not be an invalid argument, although alcohol itself is a diuretic, so you might just pee it out faster later.

I dunno man. Seems like weak science.

We should all be able to agree with this though:

At the end of the day, individuals should drink their whisky however they prefer it, said Hughes, but “if someone says they don’t like whiskey,” he added, “they just haven’t tried the right one yet.”

While all whisky isn't scotch, all scotch is whisky. And mellowing it with water in various forms makes it better imo. Except for white lightning/rocket fuel.

Huge difference between pouring it over ice to open up and adding water.

Anything Panther and RR agree on I feel obligated to give a second look while sober.

I’m out. Good night folks

Don't worry about hydration when drinking whiskey. #BestAdvice

Whiskey and water is fine, as long as they occupy separate glasses.

I don’t care how anyone drinks it really.

Can we also assume Spaulding only drinks cask strength 130 proof whiskey. Anything else would just be watered down.

If you swab your tracked up arm with alcohol before you shoot up heroin, it helps you a little bit too.

If I want to drink, I'll drink. If I am trying to re-hydrate myself along the way, I'll have a bottle of water.

Drink a cup of water after every drink if hydration is an issue.

I saw a show of someone taking a Scotch trail in Scotland. The distillers recommended blending with a little distilled water for the best taste. I'll take their word. I don't take their advice however, cause

as noted above, in Scotland they give you a little bity pitcher of water with your whisky. they don't put ice in it either.

I read that too and tried it. Adding small amounts of water does bring out different flavors in scotch. What a delicious magical beverage.

If you are resorting to butt chugging it, perhaps you should have added a little water to consume orally. But that is just me :drunken:

Same with a good Irish Whisky...a buddy recommended Power to me a few months back...it was delightful.

Maybe she should alternate ... see how long until she can't remember where the previous one went.
