Depends on my surroundings. Around here MANY consider me to be liberal based on my social views But I don’t think many of the truly liberal people I know would give me that label.

Hard question to answer. Classic Liberalism is essentially called Libertarianism today. Modern Liberalism has been twisted by some, but not all, into a weird ideology that’s not really recognizable. I’m not a modern Liberal by any stretch. I consider myself to be close to a Classic Liberal, but not a dogmatic Libertarian.

And the somewhat funny thing is that the term Liberal, when classically applied to economics refers to free and open markets.

I think it's a word that has lost all meaning. I consider identity politics very conservative at the core and ultimately anti-worker. They are a tool of the professional class.

Yup. Capitalism was once considered to be a very Liberal ideology. That's why these classifications are not very accurate and highly generalized.

The British still use it appropriately. Not only do they have a formal party with that name, they still use the classic definition for economics. Of course in the U.S. the Republicans turned it into a dirty word. Much the way my use of Community to describe Corbyn yesterday caused a minor rebuke from Zeph because Republicans (well and the Soviet/China/Cuba variety) turned that into a very dirty word.

But both the classic use of Liberal and Communism have economic meanings that intelligent people can discuss rationally.

there are many conservative (and downright puritanical) impulses in today's liberalism. they certainly do seem to have had the same effect on the workforce and pointing this out can lead to some serious blowback--you're labelled as anti-_________________ (fill in the blank). i could be wrong, but it seems to be true.
