W_Z,

Which is better: Alien or Aliens?

Latinas or some other race? There's a really cute Latina on the Sox game now. She's in Cincinnati right now. I am stuck here in Chi-town, though! Ah, Chi-town--luvya!

I'm hoping you say "Alien and Latinas." I'll abide by your verdict, though.

Got sunburned today. Wore sunscreen and everything lol

I wonder if there are any rap songs about getting sunburned.

They are two different movies and both great in their respective genres. “Alien” is one of the best “monster in the house” horror films and “Aliens” is one of the best action horror films of all time. Great stuff.

Vasquez is…hot.

That was a good knitting (originally wrote "braiding," but I'm not in the mood for cultural theft) together of two of my main themes. In all seriousness, I had not really considered how each is a different sub-genre. Interesting.

It'd be awesome if they could CGI out Sigourney Weaver and replace her with that chunky blonde designer that used to be on some episodes of Trading Spaces. Or if they had that Cesar guy (who does the dog whisperer show) be an :alien: whisperer.

Wharton Zach,

What are the best underrated series that you have seen? I'll start having a little extra time soon, and I'd like to make my way through a decent series.

Alternate question: Best underrated/out-of-the-mainstream book (fiction or otherwise)?

Series, like TV series I assume? Two that come to mind immediately for me was BBC Three’s “In the Flesh”, a different take on the zombie culture in which zombies can be “rehabilitated” into somewhat living people again; and, “Rectify”, which deals with a guy released from death row after being cleared with DNA results and trying to fit back into the small town he has been rejected by.

Underrated book or books: definitely the “Illuminatus!” Trilogy, and “Lion’s Blood” (the sequel, “Zulu Heart” is good but not nearly as engrossing).

Good suggestion so far, W_Z. Usually, I like all-White characters, but this works. Having no idea what this was about has made reading it a lot of fun (well, besides the brutality). It's a big chunk of book, too.

It is a great read, very intricate. I read it in less than a week which is pretty quick for me.

Weedin' Zack,

Who do you think will win state in hoops?

Also, what's your favorite movie that references The Virginian?

Thank you.

Wholesome Zack,

Suppose Caitlin Clark and "Wheaton" Zach Edey are driving drunk one spring in the early evening. They're wasted and they are both speeding (not together, but in different cities--like Cincy and Ulan Baator, say). The difference is that Caitlin Clark strikes and kills someone, whereas "Wheaton" Zach Edey gets home safely.

1) Who is more blameworthy?
2) Who should play Caitlin Clark in the film version?
3) Who should play "Wheaton" Zach Edey's love interest in the film?

well caitlin can safely blame the patriarchy because she was overserved, whereas zacH is in a man's world in which you'd be a wuss if you didn't get drunk at the bar (but he actually prefers Guinness o.0) so he did a bunch of Malort and chased it with High Life. That's his fault.

Anne Hathaway

also Anne Hathaway, as the evil twin sister Francine.

I always wanted to do that. You know, playing two roles. Most people would say that it's too much work, but heres what they're missing: You get two paychecks! So instead of walking away with, say, $3000, you'd walk away with twice that amount.

That Texas coach looks like Gustavo Fring.

Remember the commercials for Kellogg's Pops cereal? They had that little guy who was from Texas and loved all that huge yellow stuff. lol He was awesome.

Yup. Tring to lose weight, but I keep nibbling at the Easter candy lol

A side note about candy.

Trader Joe's peanut butter cups are so far superior to anything that Reese's makes.

WZ,

What did you think of the new Roadhouse? And a couple follow ups:

1) why was it so much worse than the original?
2) was this film proof that Connor McGregor is an illiterate?

The real me, yes. I sometimes like to post as if I am a former high school lineman, though. Or just a fat, stupid guy. Shoot, this is going to ruin Antiochus's post.

W_Z: Make sure to see Antiochus's post above.

Antiochus says "thanks" and "mind if I come on ovah?" He says he is playing in a bridge tourney now but will get back to you in "a few days."

He also says Thursdays ain't work for him.

Caitlin Clark gets a pass for being plain because she is a college kid. However, she is wealthy. Go get a makeover, even if it is an Iowa City makeover.

I always expect things like this to be bad. But this was not even fun bad or a little bad.

pretty much what RF said. this was somewhat promising in the beginning but it's basically like they ditched the roadhouse aspect and just turned it into a dumb action movie that made no sense. mcgregor was completely unnecessary, except i guess the director really wanted us to see his ass. and jake was miscast. sometimes he came off sounding more like eric foreman than a zen philosophy master bouncer.

i think where something like this could've worked is if it were made like a "money plane" type movie. just so over the top (you know, like, ah, "road house"), and overblown that it becomes fun and entertaining. even s&e were close to giving that original movie a thumbs up because it *was* a rollicking good time.

instead, we have a real dud. the characters are bland, there's no personality. it's a real missed opportunity...that no one asked for.

Looks terrible. Don't care.

I loved Inside Out. One of my favorite movies of all time. OF ALL TIME. There is a sequel in a couple months. Have you seen the original and will you see the second one? I'm hoping they don't fuck it up.

"inside out" is probably in my top 3 pixar movies, along with "up" and the first "toy story". i saw the trailer for the sequel; i'm not sure what to think but outside of the "toy story" franchise, pixar doesn't have great luck with sequels.

i'd probably catch it on disney+.

Terrible movie. Almost on par with the alien Indiana Jones movie.

Gyllenhaal's voice reminded me of somebody, Eric Foreman came up so it was weird that you thought so too.
