I was reading an article today and came across "cromulent." I have a halfway decent vocabulary, but have never encountered it. Came to find out that it originated from The Simpsons:

I am reading this book on Richard the Lionheart. The author is Irish. There have been at least a dozen words in the book I have never heard of as I think he is using some 12 century terminology with things like their equipment and horses and such.

When I was in high school I had an Ancient and Medieval History class. I was easily the best student in the class. We had quizzes/tests every Friday and I almost always got everything correct. There were extra points for completing the test first too and I was always done before anyone else. So heading into the final exam I had a 102 average out of 100.

There had been one big assignment- a book review on a book about a pertinent topic. I completely blew that shit off because I'm a lazy ass. I figured the worst that could happen was that I'd get a "C" in the class. But after the teacher, Mr. Morrison, read off the exam results- I got a perfect score- he read the names of three or four of us who hadn't handed in a book review and said that we had all failed the class.

Today your parents would have sued the teacher for unfair actions to their perfect student.
I was sick to my stomach. Now I'm gonna have to go to fucking summer school. But Mr. Morrison threw us a lifeline. He said if we handed in a book review by the end of the week he would accept it.

I had my grandfather drive me to the Hild Library and grabbed a book on the Crusades. That's how I know Richard the Lionheart faced off against Saladin at the Battle of Jaffa in 1100-something. I'm pretty sure it was like Vietnam and nobody actually won.

Anyway, I got my "A" and I learned a few things.

No actually I would have been one of the first done and got extra points back in the day.

But as a teacher now I find the idea of extra points for finishing first pretty dumb.
