This is really awful. I took our entire family to Maui back in May to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary and rented a B&B a couple of blocks from the restaurants and shops in Lahaina. None of it is there now. Only ashes. Don't know what really went down but this once again points out what cities and states DO NOT DO to protect homes and structures. The town was pretty old and the structures were mainly frame and close together. Must have really been a tinder box when the winds hit.

Lahaina Grill is probably my favorite restaurant in the world, or was. Beautiful art work too. My family says we sat in the left corner but I think we were in front of the 2 sets of flowers in the middle.



I liked Lahaina Fish Co a lot too. Longhi's had closed in 2019 but I saw the most beautiful sunset after a rainstorm there. Hoping Honu was spared but can't tell. We saw a bull shark swim by while waiting for a boat tour thing, I can't believe that Banyan Tree is gone. So many great memories from a regular trip, our Honeymoon, and a family trip. It was a great little town and I can't believe it's gone.

But I've spent so many good times in there with friends and business partners. it's not looking good.

We stopped in San Francisco on the way there and back. Watch a movie or 2 then read. It breaks it up. I know what you mean though. I don't think I could fly to Australia or some of the islands near south east Asia.

It’s no big deal because they have insurance.

That's a great way to break things up. We ended up doing a day in Frisco on the way there and then 3 days on the way back. Drank on the beach all week in Maui and then used the time in San Francisco to do some urban exploring.

That's probably your best bet. Even back in the early 2000's when we visited San Francisco, it was a cesspool. Homeless people sleeping everywhere on the streets, more human shit than dog shit, and so on. My wife really wanted to go to Haight and Ashbury. We took one of the trolleys and this homeless woman came on and just walked down the aisle screaming and spitting on people until this one dude knocked her out cold.
