Cargo ship won. Something like 20 cars in the river. Ship was traveling from Baltimore to Singapore. Looks kind of suspicious? Bridges usually don't just jump out in front of ships.

I’m curious what the Baltimore to Singapore route looks like.

Right now its not looking good for sure.

Can't imagine how horrible this death is. Seat belts are constructed to restrict your body from going forward, but happens to your body when its thrown violently upwards as the car smashes the water? I have to imagine the lap belt keeps you in place and your neck is snapped from the force of hitting the hood.

The bridge collapsed around 1:30 AM ET. It's five hours later and the Rescue Team hasn't been able to send divers into the water to look for people in the cars that were detected via SONAR. Just awful. How in the world did the ship ram into the pillar like that?

Hit the abutment, looks like almost dead on. How does that happen? Guessing either the captain was drunk or the intern was at the helm.

Power loss but the ship turns right off its straight-line course and into the elmer gantry at the end?

Maybe one of the rear-engines had a generator kick-in or otherwise didn't suffer the power loss or was still kickin' and the other side cut-out completely/seized-up? I dunno.

not sure why the wheel would be cut that way. they were headed toward the center of the bridge on a straight line before the power loss, then suddenly swerving into the support structure.

Probably related to the power loss.

Or Chiner probing our infrastructure ahead of an invasion. Best to proactively nuke China now, just in case.

CNN says that pilots employed by the port authority are responsible for steering cargo vessels in and out of the port. The pilots rely on a computer program for navigation.

Not sure why but I noticed that on our last cruise. Hanging out on balcony saw the pilot boats approach and insert the pilot helmsmen I guess they are called.

Yeah I should have thought of that. I have seen this on cruises too. In some cases they board the ship and actually pilot them, in others they use their boat(s) to guide them, which the ship captain at the helm. Just depends on the port.

Yep every port has their own pilots that dock the boats.

This sounds like a storyline for The Wire.

A similar issue happened to the original Sunshine Skyway bridge across Tampa Bay in 1980. It was middle of the night and vehicles were plunging into the water until a guy stopped right at the edge and then flagged other cars to stop.

It absolutely doesn't look like that and this person should be thrown off a bridge. Edit: Maybe a little bit, but throw him off a bridge anyway

Playing back the livestream it looks like luckily there may not have been any traffic on the collapsed part of the bridge when it fell other than the construction vehicles. You see a truck and perhaps a car exit to the left just before impact but I don't see any other lights moving across.
