Asking for a friend.

Let's say you have taken three interviews around the same time, one of them gets back to you for a "second interview" which is likely to result in a formal offer with at least some expectation of a non-binding YES OR NO.

Do you mention anything to the other two places that things are moving forward with some other place and may be looking at an agreement? Do you just let that one play out and if the others don't get back to you quick enough they are just out of luck?

From what INTERNET tells me, you should just treat all of them separately and if they get back to you too late then too bad for those guys. Any insight from the successful people on here?

I'm not necessarily successful, but I'll give my insight. I have just let them play out individually.

Use the other two as a negotiating ploy to the one company that is offering you the job. Could probably get some more money on their offer.

Keep it all separate. Mentioning that might cause and issue with some. If subsequent offers are that much better you (or your friend) can deal with it then.

Keep them separate.

Decide which one of the three companies you would like to work at and feel you would be the best fit for you culturally.

Keep interviewing with all three.

Take the first offer you get and wait for others.

Use any offer you can to leverage the best package you can get from the company you most prefer.

Seperate.
We had someone interview here with an offer in hand from someone else and let us know that as a negotiating ploy.
We dropped him as a candidate b/c the other two candidates were just as good and didn't try that ploy. The only time you should use that ploy is if you know you are the only candidate/by and far the best candidate.

It's Rick.

He would convince them easily, or just keep talking about it until the employer gives up and hires him just to shut him up.

Being open with folks is not always a ploy.

You can never really be sure that you are the only candidate. And it would be even more difficult in most business situations to know who your competitors are.

It is for a friend.

There are people that like me in real life.

Considering you hate everyone in this thread but Psycory you'll have to be more specific.

Unlike Biggies special person, I am successful. Definitly mention the other 2 opportunities. It wont hurt and can only help.

if the one you don't want offers you a job, definitely tell the one you DO want that you have a job another offer but would prefer THIS JOB.

He needs to know if the job grosses at least $800K before he will offer advice.

I just went through this myself. I had 4 interviews going and each at different stages. I had a really good rapport with one of the recruiters for the one I ended up taking and at one point he asked where I was in the process with other interviews. I told him they were pretty far along (past two live interviews) and I was expecting offers from at least one of them. It definitely helped him urge the hiring manager along and I don't think was viewed negatively at all. It could depend on the field and how high demand is for that skillset as well.

I also answered "90" to every math question.

I would only use the leverage if I knew I would be OK if it blew up. When I was hired out of college, a lot of promises weren't kept and after six months I was job hunting. I found another job that was like 7k more without really trying (this was during the Clinton years where the economy was great) and I told my current employer that I was dissatisfied with the way they hadn't kept to their promises, and I had an offer for 17k more elsewhere and I was going to leave. They said we can't come up to 17k, but we'll do 12k and promote you. So I said OK, and worked another 14 years with them. But I was ready to leave regardless, and was still ready to leave if they lied about their promises again (which they did not do the second time around.)

If it were three jobs where I have no exposure to anyone, I don't know how hard I'd lean on the leverage... you probably aren't that special of a snowflake to them. If you know someone or have some reason to think they are thinking you are special, then it is probably worth it to lean a little and see where it gets you.

Most people, good employees anyway, have more leverage than they think they do. Employers do not want to lose good employees & the cost to recruit hire & train a new employee is always more than the $ it takes to get the current employee to stay.
