Loved Caminiti when he was young and raw before the roids and cocaine. Should have been a HOF player.

late 70's, early 80's....Willie Stargell really had the most unique approach to the plate. Awesome!

To kids today, it still is. My son absolutely loves the all star game and the home run derby.

Loved Tony Kubek as an announcer, actually loved the whole Saturday NBC broadcast team.

It was cool how the wooden bats were different. You wouldn't buy a Kaline because the handle was so thin and would break easily. The Jackie Robinson was like swinging a log. I always liked the Hank Aaron bat. Also liked Mantle and Mays.

Kids miss out.

Mike Schmidt, but I quickly developed my own swing rather quick due to the fact I had an overbearing father who used to make me do 200 swings in the swimming pool everyday during little league season. All that hard work, and swinging a bat in a pool is terrible hard work, didn't pay off until the next year when I had huge forearms and outstanding bat speed for a 12 year old. I vividly remember being the only kid who could hit the ball over the fence back at the old Hanover Park little league. I also remember other kids parents yelling at me for being too "good", and looking back, I probably was.

Then I discovered pussy, the rest is history...

Fond memories.

Jimmy Thick- Fucking parents at those games, such assholes.

If I were a pitcher I would have buried one right in that guy's ribs just for being so annoying.

When I played EA's MLB I used to plunk Craig Counsell every time, regardless of situation, even to my own detriment, solely because his batting stance bugged me.

I also once shot a man in the back, just for snorin'...

I tried to throw like Dan Quisenberry. I can throw some nasty submarine pitches with a wiffle ball.

+1 - i was a quisenberry clone on the wiffleball field. i STILL throw like him when i am pitching to my kids and if totally messes them up. i even remembered how to position the ball to throw different pitches. how i could still remember is beyond me.

as far as batting stances, cecil cooper was one of my favorites. i also had a pretty good mickey rivers bat twirl on the "very rare" occasions i swung and missed. whenever i watch the Cubs play and rizzo swings for the fences, i imagine him as a kid emulating Reggie Jackson, he has a great drop to one knee all or nothing home run swing that brings me back to the old days.

Real answer: Julio Franco.

How he generated the absurd bat speed he did, he was like a king cobra uncoiling, and hit lasers all over the yard. The 1994 .319 /.406 / .510 campaign he had as a White Sock DH was unreal. The guy was hittin ropes at 48, which in Dominican years could in all reality be 68. He was like the Caribbean Gary Sheffield... incredible bat speed and eye.
