Unlike conns, I made it to the 46-minute mark, but remarked to the wife that it was just...fucking terrible.

First off, I despise Jude fucking Law. Despise him. Second, the Pope/Lenny character is basically Dr. Gregory House as Pope (even down to the Brit playing an American...) - completely petulant, childish, and rude to everyone around him for no apparent reason, except that House was actually witty and good at his job; they made TYP look like he had absolutely no clue. Third, if this is supposed to be satire or farce, well, it's not funny - and, if it supposed to be taken seriously, the plot is so ridiculous that it is one huge failure - example: (SPOILER ALERT!!!) those around him decide that it may be a good idea to investigate him - of course, AFTER they elected him Pope...

If there is some kind of reveal/peeling back layers of the onion for this to make any sense, I'm not the least bit interested.

This is perhaps the worst series/miniseries opener that HBO has hyped since "John From Cincinnati".

I made it to episode 2. The show makes True Detective season 2 look like season 1. It's terrible, over acted and relies on surrealism like a crutch.

...so that means there's technically a decent little %-chance that he's a proper discordian pope?

It was a play on an old thread created by IMU. The Pope is a Sith Lord.

This show was very disappointing. It looked promising from the previews, but the opener was just a snooze-fest. I know Pilots usually suck, but the show doesn't have any time to waste with this just being a mini-series. I don't think I'll stick around for episode 2.

I thoight it looked like a parody of the moderm anti hero tv shows. Like HBOs version of Yo Teach!
