Gaius Baltar in the Galactica reboot. Would have also accepted Tigh, Adama, Roslin, and Six

It's a shame Bubbles from The Wire hasn't been mentioned yet. I blame myself

5. Walter White - Breaking Bad
6. Kramer - Seinfeld
7. Vern Shillinger - Oz
8. Mike Erhmentraut - Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul
9. Rust Cohle - True Detective
10. Bill Rawls - The Wire

I'm sure many would disagree with the Rawls pick the most, but he's probably the funniest character in the history of TV, IMO. I also don't watch much network TV or older tv shows so others can speak to those. Toughest omission was Uncle Junior from the sopranos

i think i'd go with ted jr. or kerwin...but nice pick.

You know I wanted to go with Kerwin. I just don't think he had enough screen time to justify it. I'd have no issues with anyone placing Ted Jr in their top 5. Almost every character on that show is incredible.

What did I miss on Rectify? I gave it 2 episodes.

Is it a slow-burn deal?

It doesn't really pick up the pace. The whole show is very slow up til the end. Just every character on there is so well developed and it's unlike any other show I've ever seen. I think a quote Jerry Garcia said about the Dead applies to Rectify - "Not everybody likes licorice, but the people that like licorice really, really like licorice."

WZ, sell the good doctor on Rectify. You'll do a better job of it than I could.

That's crazy talk.

But yeah, I guess if you didn't like the first two episodes you probably wouldn't dig the show too much. WZ, me, and shakes thought it was one of the best tv shows of all time and we're pretty much never wrong so that's something to consider.

8.4/10 on IMDB, 96% on Rotten Tomatoes, 82% on Metacritic. But yeah, I can see how it wouldn't be the type of show for someone who thinks Butters from South Park is one of the best tv characters ever.

In the old sportsaroo vein, I'll offer up John Madden or Don Cherry. Not really sure about Cherry, but everyone who knew him called Madden's tv personality largely an act.

And I'm always puzzled by Wire fans never mentioning Snoop. I didn't realize that she was a she for awhile and Steven King called her one of the most terrifying characters in tv history

Of course it was good. The vast majority of people who actually watched it agree. But some people think the Godfather sucked so at the end of the day all of it is subjective.

Like lipid with Sorkin, I could just name 10 Wire characters and be satisfied with my list. I'd agree with King, but she also has an advantage over regular actors in that department since she actually lived the life.

Kinda like "Pauly Walnuts" on the Sopranos a certain grimy edge of having done it. But then again she was (is) an actual killer of sorts

It's probably the most honest, emotional show I've seen outside of "Six Feet Under" except it doesn't get kitschy the way SFU did sometimes.

it's definitely not for everyone and sometimes it's a tough hour to get through because so much happens--that isn't action--and there's a lot of depth to it.

for me it was very refreshing to know it got to have its full run, and ended in a satisfying way. that's rare for a TV show, especially nowadays.

Alright, if I should watch one of the three, where do I start -

Rectify
Six Feet Under
The Shield

The reference to The Wire reminds me of somebody I forgot from the original Baltimore crime series: Frank Pembleton.

Man this isn't even a fair question. I like being forced to narrow my favorite characters down to 10 tho. Just to be clear, I haven't watched the Wire, Six Feet Under, or Deadwood. I got into the Sopranos late, so I'm not gonna rate any characters where I haven't seen all, or nearly every available season.

1. Walter White (Breaking Bad)
2. Vic Mackey (The Shield)
3. Rust Cohle (True Detective)
4. Fox Mulder (X-Files)
5. Kenny Powers (Eastbound & Down)
6. Vanessa Ives (Penny Dreadful)
7. Castiel (Supernatural)
8. Tyrion Lannister (Game of Thrones)
9. Lucifer (Supernatural/ played by Mark Pelligrino)
10. Richard Harrow (Boardwalk Empire)

Honorable Mentions:
Tyrone Biggums (Chappelle's Show)
Agent Nelson Van Alden (Boardwalk Empire)
Saul Goodman (Breaking Bad)
Huey Freeman (The Boondocks)
Gus Fring (Breaking Bad)
Shane Vendrell (The Shield)
The Monster (Penny Dreadful)
Peter Petrelli (Heroes)

I haven't seen SFU. It's tough to compare Rectify and The Shield because they are such complete opposite shows. The Shield is way more action packed and a lot more fun. Rectify is a much more emotional and character driven show and has much better acting from all involved.
