Had high expectations for this thing, and I came away kind of disappointed.
Then again, I was waiting for this one alongside Ballad of Buster Scruggs, and that one hit it clean out of the park.
This is not a dark comedy like it is advertised - there is not one humorous moment on the entire movie.
It is a decent neo-western, with quite a few novel ideas, but it did not stick out as anything culturally-classical. Phoenix and Reilly do an admirable job acting, for the most part, but Jake Gyllenhall seems to be constantly teetering on the brink of another Brokeback Moment throughout the entire picture.
I give it 2.5 out of 4 stars.
