BB wasn't sinister at all Season 1. Maybe vague hints in hindsight having watch the entire series a few times through.

Relatively, I think BCS is off to a better start than BB. Impossible to reach BB heights though

Plus that was still being clearly framed as Walt as a wholesome family man who thought he had months to live who was doing it all for his family. He also was about to release him based on the furniture store convo until he saw he was going to be stabbed to death.

I only saw the first half, but Saul calling Bingo was hilarious. I love that he had the Bob Barker skinny mic.

It was a solid episode as usual. Loved the method he used to track the hidden money. Can't believe there are only 3 episodes left this season.
I've been very happily surprised about this first season. I really had no idea that they would be able to flesh this out and make Jimmy a stand
alone character with his own show.

I don't think they were sufficiently highlighting her deviousness in this whole thing. If her husband goes to trial, she gets that money (or a portion of that money) all to herself. I thought it was obvious she wanted a new/different life and losing the a boring accountant was fine with her. I feel the same way about this board.

Loved the music that was playing while Mike was looking for the marked cash. Anyone know who that was?

This show has great dialogue, incredible performances and wonderful individual scenes. But I don't feel like it really adds up to anything. It's less than the sum of its parts.

I love this show, maybe my favorite on TV right now.

I wish they did a bit more to transition Mike from Philly cop to guy who is breaking into strangers houses to repay a debt. The previous episode showed him as a heartbroken father who went vigilante on corrupt cops.

It's quite possibly me, but there's a big jump from grieving father seeking revenge to soberly, calmly, breaking and entering into those crazy bastards houses.

Could be, but I think you should at least give it the full season and maybe the first part of season 2 to judge it.

For sure, that makes sense.

I'd imagine, if you didn't watch BB and know what Mike becomes, it would have been helpful learn more details about his corrpution. Even from a character development perspective.

Is it just me, or when they show the flashbacks are they shot with a super bright light, almost like what some director might use for a scene in heaven or something?

Yes, they are. They use a process called bleach bypassing to give it a washed out or silvery type of look so it's easier for the viewer to identify the time shift.

It's true that we know what happens, but we don't know how it happened. The show is trying to create suspense by developing this aspect of the narrative, but I'm not sure that's enough to drive a TV show.

In Breaking Bad's case, we didn't know what was going to happen OR how it was going to happen. So there was a lot more suspense incorporated into the story. Plus that show had a more interesting overall plot with better characters.

Yeah, well, I'm still watching. I just think the giddiness in this thread derives more much more from the greatness of Breaking Bad than it does the greatness of Better Call Saul. Better Call Saul is a nice little show so far, and it doesn't give much hint that it's aspiring to anything more. Breaking Bad was completely different almost from its first episode.

I love this show but I agree with TM to a degree - mainly that the supporting characters just aren't that great.

The best characters are Jimmy and Mike. I'd like to think that's just because we know so much more about them but I don't think it is.

Kim has a chance to be somewhat interesting but I'm not quite sure on that. I really have already tired of Michael McKean's character. And Hamlin is a nothing as of now.

I have some faith that Gilligan and Co. can come up with a storyline to make these characters great but I don't really expect it will happen.

That said, a show that's 80% Mike and Jimmy is still a great show.

i think this first season is intentionally dull. were watching the character development that we didnt see in breaking bad... in that show these guys were already the badass guys. this show we see them before they were badass. i think next season will get a LOT more interesting... especially when saul becomes saul.
