Actually re-watched it yesterday, as I had nothing else to do and nothing else was on...not too bad, but favorite John Candy movie? That might be a bit of a stretch, considering this is the man who ate the Ol' 96er and starred as Uncle Buck.

It's not his funniest Bulldog, no question. But I like it as he plays a regular guy (which he rarely did) pretty well.

For us younger kids, I recommend a movie that is under the radar just because of how old it is.

Walter Mattahau and Jack Lemmon's The Odd Couple is a great movie.

Hihg Noon is a great black and white western. Some say it is the standard for all westerns.

Has anyone seen Lost Highway by David Lynch? Very strange but pretty good at the same time. Actually, I'm a fan of most Lynch movies but that one stands out for me.

The Marx Bothers are sort of under the radar these days, IMO. AMC and TCM play them from time to time but not nearly often enough.
Duck Soup is an excellent politcal satire on the rise of facism in Europe during the 1930s.
All are worthy of watching before you check out.

The Cocoanuts (1929)
Animal Crackers (1930)
Monkey Business (1931)
Horse Feathers (1932)
Duck Soup (1933)
A Night at the Opera (1935)
A Day at the Races (1937)
Room Service (1938)
At the Circus (1939)
Go West (1940)
A Night in Casablanca (1946)

I liked "Mulholland Drive" better for some reason, but "Lost Highway" had some great moments. Was a huge "Twin Peaks" fan back in the day...

Could be, could be... I just thought it was an overall more interesting movie, especially that...homeless woman(?) still gives me chills.

one of my favorite super hot lesbian sex scenes, while we're on the subject, comes from "Bound".

Hard Candy is one of the most disturbing and overlooked movies ive seen in the past 2 years. It stars Ellen Page who was in the last X-MEN movie.. If your a guy you may wanna hold your balls a little closer after seeing this movie... :)

WELCOME TO THE DOLLHOUSE is, quite possibly, my favorite movie of all time.

how can't you love a movie with the following lines?"

Steve Rodgers: Special people?
Dawn Weiner: Yeah.
Steve Rodgers: Do you know what "special people" means?
Dawn Weiner: What?
Steve Rodgers: Special people equals retarded. Your club is for retards

[after seeing Dawn about to enter a school bathroom stall, then going over to the sink]
Lolita: You didn't come in here to wash your hands.
Dawn Weiner: Y - yes I did.
Lolita: You came in here to take a shit.
Dawn Weiner: No, really. I don't have to go. My hands were just dirty, that's all.
Lolita: Liar. I can smell you from here.

CLASSIC!

The movie "Gia" should contend for 1st place. Not only is a younger, non-political, kidless Angelina Jolie naked for a lot of the movie, she has a great scene with the new blond on "Lost." Good, good stuff.

I agree with you on the HLA, but that movie is beyond depressing.

There was a story there? That's why (insert diety of your choice here) invented the "Fast-Forward" & "Skip Ahead" buttons. But, most importantly as it pertains to this movie, the "Slow Forward" & "Pause" buttons.

a few of my favorite "undiscovered" movies (in no particular order)

Hopscotch

Walter Matthau, Glinda Jackon, Ned Beatty and a very young Sam Waterston.

Matthau plays an aging spy whose superior (Beatty), takes him out of the field & sticks him behind a desk. Matthau deletes his files & quits. A old fling (Jackson) semi seriously asks him "What are you going to do now? Write your memoirs?" From that germ of an idea the movie really gets going. Matthau does write his memoirs and sends chapters, one at a time, to the US, Russian, French, English etc etc intelligence agencies. The name "Hopscotch" derives from Matthau trying (and succeeding) to stay one jump ahead of everyone who wants their "dirty little secrets" to stay hidden.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Murder by Decree

Christopher Plummer, James Mason, Donald Sutherland, Genevieve Bujold, Sir John Gielgud, Susan Clark, Frank Findlay

IMHO the finest of the Sherlock Holmes "pastiches" With Holmes (Plummer) and Watson (Mason) attempting to solve the Jack the Ripper murders
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Kelley's Heroes

Clint Eastwood, Telly Savalas, Don Rickles, Carroll O'Connor, Donald Sutherland, Gavin MacLeod

After finding out that a large cache of gold ($16,000,000) lies just behind enemy lines Kelley (Eastwood) puts together his own little private army to grab it before the real army gets there.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Farewell to the King

Nick Nolte, Nigel Havers, Frank McRae

Nolte plays a soldier who escapes the execution of his shipmates & disappears in the jungle. Rescued by natives he becomes their King & turns his back on the war. Two British soldiers (Havers & McRae) parachute into Nolte's territory in order to set up an observation post & attempt to enlist his aid in fighting the Japanese.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Bingo Long's Travelling All-Stars & Motor Kings

Billy Dee Williams, James Earl Jones, Richard Pryor

A story of the barnstorming days of the Negro baseball leagues. Bingo (Pryor) tires of the "slave" wages paid by owners & takes his team on the road "where the real money is"
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Gotcha!

Anthony Edwards, Linda Fiorentino

When we meet Edwards he is a geeky UCLA student who is only good at one social activity. Gotcha!, a paintball game of assassination played only on campus. He badgers his parents to go on vacation to Europe where he meets Fiorentino, a spy, who hides a cannister of film in his backpack. With the KGB & CIA both after the film the movie turns into a real life game of Gotcha!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Silent Running

Bruce Dern

A post apocalyptic Sci-Fi movie ("eco-drama") with Dern as a crewmember on the Valley forge, a spaceship made up of huge domes designed to preserve the Earth's vegitation until it is safe for them to return & replant it.

As with all foreign language films...do yourself a favor and get the subtitled version - not the dubbed version.

Along those lines, "Ike" with Tom Selleck (I know, I'm aware of it) was really good. You know, if you want to get some history tips.....

The Beguiled with Clint Eastwood.

I saw it about twenty years ago or so, on TV. In fact I haven't thought about it in years. Never have seen the uncut version though.
It is a dark and creepy tale of a wounded Union soldier being taken in by a Confederate girls boarding school.
If you are a fan of Clint and haven't seen this, you are missing a good one.
Any more info and I would spoil the movie, IMO.

"She's the One" with Edward Burns, Jennifer Aniston and Cameron Diaz (both before they forgot how to eat). Great flick.

Ed Burns had a nice little run of low budget, high producing films like the Brothers Mc Mullen and She's the One. He seems to have fallen off the face of the earth.
