No. I've never read that one. I remember when Howard first came out though. My friends and I were into superheroes and we thought it was really dumb. It was only later that I realized he is probably the greatest Marvel character ever. It's kind of a parallel to when my friends and I saw Cheap Trick open for Rush and we ridiculed Cheap Trick.

I had my suspicions about DC giving the keys to the castle to this director. From day 1 though,I have been more excited to see the Russo brothers next Captain America movie. Big fan of Cap's since I was a kid. Below might be one of the greatest words & pictures ever put together in any form of pop culture:issue Cap #113!

Are you serious???? He's a ridiculously dumb superhero unless you buy into the Rich Cohen hypothesis that he represents Ashkenazi Jews in America. “Superman is a writer; Superman is brainy in his glasses; Superman is in exile from an ancient nation destroyed by fire; Superman has two names, a fake WASP-y name (Clark Kent) and a secret name in an ancient tongue, Kal-El; . . . Superman, whose cape is a tallis; Superman, whose logo, the “S” emblazoned on his chest, marks him as a freakish stranger as the yellow Star of David marks the ghetto Jew.” If you accept that, then he's kinda cool. Otherwise, he's too fucking powerful. So powerful the ultra dumb conceit of Kryptonite had to be created so he could actually face danger. I never understood why a piece of the planet he came from would weaken him. Idiotic.

Of course the hipsters hate Superman.

That proves nothing.

Whatever, dude. Superman is the Establishment superhero. He fights for the status quo harder than Boilermaker Rick. If Ol' Kal-El's space egg had landed 100 years earlier and in Jumpertown, Mississippi instead of Smallville that motherfucker would have been kicking the shit out of abolitionists.

They're not super beings on Krypton, just on Earth. It's the dumbest fucking concept. Now, a staple of the superhero mythology is, there's the superhero and there's the alter ego. Batman is actually Bruce Wayne, Spider-Man is actually Peter Parker. When that character wakes up in the morning, he's Peter Parker. He has to put on a costume to become Spider-Man. And it is in that characteristic Superman stands alone. Superman didn't become Superman. Superman was born Superman. When Superman wakes up in the morning, he's Superman. His alter ego is Clark Kent. His outfit with the big red "S", that's the blanket he was wrapped in as a baby when the Kents found him. Those are his clothes. What Kent wears - the glasses, the business suit - that's the costume. That's the costume Superman wears to blend in with us. Clark Kent is how Superman views us. And what are the characteristics of Clark Kent. He's weak... he's unsure of himself... he's a coward. Clark Kent is Superman's critique on the whole human race.

This is fucking awesome. Its like you can see inside Afleck's brain as he realizes he just wasted 2 years of his life and that he'll be considered an even bigger joke than he already is.

I just saw it and overall I thought it was a very good movie. My wife and her friends liked it too.
The problem with the movie is the prep work to get to the meat of the movie took 45-50 minutes instead of a nice compact 25-30 minutes. Those who say it's Afflecks movie,I disagree with. I thought Superman and his story took as much time or more to tell. Cavill does a fine job as Kent & Superman.
There is a cameo in there as the guy who plays The comedian from Watchman plays Bruce's dad. Some really great fight scenes but all in the dark. The fight scenes in Winter Soldier were much better choreographed.

I give it 3.5 out of 5 bowls of pasta

If it had Kevin James as Batman, it would've been the perfect movie.

One can argue that Batman is always Batman, & that Bruce Wayne is the alter ego. Bruce Wayne, the person he used to be, died on the inside after witnessing his parents being murdered. Batman had to put on a public face for this identity, that he was still a normal functioning billionaire. Yet on the inside, he was a obsessive, hurt man child, who used his vast fortune to atone for letting his parents die.

I had low expectations and they were pretty much met. Movie focuses more on Superman who I don't really care for. The acting and special effects were fine but the story was weak. This is kind of the introduction to The Justice League and we see brief scenes with future characters like Flash and Aquaman but it was weak. Wonder Woman was well done I guess. Affleck was fine as Batman no complaints really. I went as a Batman fan and to have fun watching a mindless movie. They got the mindless pretty close but wasn't much fun. 2 out of 4 stars. A solid Meh...

That's basically where I was the moment I saw him in the role ... I was hoping the movie would distract me from it ... despite JP's liking it, I figure this is going to be a problem from start to finish.

Affleck's performance is one of the few redeeming qualities this movie has. I couldn't care less about the other characters in the movie and this did absolutely nothing to get me excited for the Justice League movies but I really hope they are at least thinking about making a solo Batman movie with Affleck.

Saw an 11AM showing at North Riverside and the theater was packed still. It was...okay. Never as I was watching it did I think it was bad, but never after watching it do I look back and think it was good. Cavill and Affleck were pretty good. Affleck didn't really do a wide range of acting or anything, but was Batmanish enough. His Supebuster armor was pretty stupid as well as his needless training montage they stuck in the middle for no reason. I was disappointed in Eisenberg, who I've liked in most movies. Too young and not menacing enough. The guy from Smallville would have sufficed. WW, I dunno, she was there, not enough to care one way or the other. The rescue scene with Batman might have been the highlight of the movie.

The movie did what it needed to do franchise-wise. The current slightly unhinged Batman doesn't look like a good choice to head the Justice League though. I mean in every Batman movie ever made they kind of give short-shrift to the "World's Greatest Detective" part of his character, if they played that up it would have looked more promising. It was definitely worth seeing, it just lacked enough fun for my tastes.
