Teaser for Christopher Nolan's next film. Much hype.

Plucky Brits in fishing boats overcoming the odds against a faceless, airborne, cartoonishly evil German foe is red meat for Americans. Hopefully this movie rescues us from superhero movie hell.

Nolan will have the British troops escape through a wrinkle in the space-time continuum just as the ocean eats itself.

The real twist occurs as the camera pans out showcasing the vast void of empty ocean when you relaize you have been looking a Julie Dicaro in spandex for the last two hours.

Having gone to an American public school I knew nothing about the battle of Dunkirk. You could make 2 or 3 movies about this battle alone.

1940: Krauts have 'em trapped. Krauts hesitate. Flotilla of ships and little boats rescues 340,000 Brits (and assorted Frogs?). Few months later, Bears demolish Redskins 73-0. Britain goes it alone for a year. Sitskrieg.
1941: Krauts invade Rusland. Bears kick the shit out of Giants to win second straight title; the power years. Some asshole island country which stole baseball bombs US. The power years also commence.

Dunkirk? Doesn't he owe Chus $1000?

Comes out July 21, the week after I get back from Normandy. Good timing!

Seems like an odd story to make a movie out of. Don't usually have war movies where the main point is "look how we were able to run away from the Germans with our tails between our legs!"

the point is to make fun of the French who had to hang around and get humiliated.

The French Army sacrificed itself to save the BEF, it's a very heroic story.

French army raising their hand and volunteering to stick around and surrender is hardly a sacrifice, its what they do.

Victory?!? We're French, we don't even have a word for it!

They fought basically to the death to halt the German panzers long enough for the British to organize an evacuation. I believe the French Army suffered the worst casualty rates of any Allied army on the western front at the battles of Dunkirk and Lille.

Early reviews are very positive.

I'm going to try and make the 7pm Thursday.

Wish I had an IMAX closer than 6hrs away.

I saw "Sink the Bismark" as a child so I'm good.

I need more superhero stuff!

That and they essentially had an entire generation wiped out 30 years prior.

The movie never let up from the first scene. It was a 2 hour movie, but felt like an hour and a half because it was ridiculously intense. Also some sad parts. My wife was crying.

Nolan is one of the 3 or 4 best directors in Hollywood, and this is better than Inception. Just as good or better than my fav Nolan movie "The Dark Knight".

You need to see this in a theater. Be warned tho. It is LOUD. The gun shots especially. I'm thinking Nolan wanted to keep it as realistic as possible. Sit in the middle of the theater.

Also, Tom Hardy is badass in his role.

One last thing. I don't think there was any CGI used in this film. Maybe one or two scenes. Maybe.

Think I've got a man crush on Hardy. Haven't seen the film yet but I've always liked him.

Gotta be one of the best actors in Hollywood. I remember when he said he was in the same acting school as Michael Fassbender, and said no one was as good as the Fass. Now idk who is better.

Hardy kills it in every role.

I think he mumbles and is difficult to understand, whether in an American accent or his native British

It's loud but it is also quiet. The dialogue throughout the film is minimal. Most of the acting is in silence.

I would have preferred the airplane scenes to have been presented without any background music. It is inobtrusive as it is but I think it would have been even better with nothing but the sounds of the plane. I loved the calm demeanor of the pilots in the face of the ultimate danger...unlike a movie like Top Gun where the pilots are always jabbering.

I also like that neither character nor viewer ever meets the enemy. Sure we see the airplanes but we never once see a Nazi.

Great movie. I loved it and would watch it again.

Saw it today and loved it. It is such an immersive film. The man knows how to make a movie.
