I liked that movie a lot. The scene where he shot the guy who beat up his brother and tried to take things over was a good one. The guy who played Craig's big brother also had a number of good scenes in the movie.

Maybe the most "real" war movie that I have seen is "We Were Soldiers" with Mel Gibson and Sam Elliot. I liked it because it not only told an accurate story of the first Air Cav unit in Nam but it also told the story of the families that were left behind and the suffering that they experienced.

The best line in the movie was delivered by Elliot who played Gibson's sergeant major. Gibson was talking about feeling like Custer at one point when he and his forces were surrounded. Elliot responded. "Sorry Sir, Custer was a PUSSY...…..You ain't".

When Trumpets Fade. It is a bleak and brutal look at the fighting in the Hurtgen forrest . Basically the USA fed divisions in they got ripped up and then rotated to the sector that became the Bulge. Decent cast. HBO flick.

A midnight Clear. Nice little flim about a truce during Chirstmas during WW2 tween American and Germans.

Either of the Zulu movies.

'Not really a movie, Generation Kill. Shows the absolute absurdity of shit at times. The opening scene actually has the guys having the embedded reporter going into the PX and buying them batteries for their night vision equipment because they are not allowed to do so .

As for the Midway movies they are making two, One called Midway the other called Dauntless. word are both are not that good.

If you watch any History channel the shooting of prisoners was a lot more frequent than we are led to believe. You watch the interviews with the vets and they are like what were we supposed to do with them? It was more frequent with SS,after the Malmendy episode and really frequent with the Japanese.

I liked U-571, especially near the end when were they trying to escape the German battleship. Hearing those depth charges explode in the theater were great.

That's how I view it and most veterans probably also. It took a lot of the bullshit commonly associated with war movies out of it and focused on what actually happens in combat and also what happened at home with the families. It is my understanding that the colonel depicted in the movie died a couple of years ago. I think that he was one of the consultants on the making of the movie.
