The original is great to start but you can tell Lynch burned out hard The new season is pretty good so far. I was frustrated by the molasses-slow pacing of it until I went back to watch some old episodes and realized it was like that then too.

All-time great theme song, too.

Being possessed by Bob makes him look that way. And no, I'm not spoilering something that happened in an episode 25 years ago.

i did not know it was back on tv. BAck in the 80s it was a good show and really weird and artsy for network television back then.

They wear lingerie the week of Valentine's. I would say food options are a slight upgrade over Hooters. Beer is cold.

I don't think he burned out. The network executives ruined the second season by mandating storylines.

Stupidest thing I ever heard was when I saw the population on the sign...54,000 or something. I said to myself, "That's some bullshit, right there"...so I googled it...Apparently an exec at the studio decided 5,400 residents and nobody would watch...so they added a zero. It was a hit...Guess he was right.

David Lynch is a postmodern auteur who transmogrifies "intellectual" paradigms--most notably those from Freudian psychoanalysis--into cultural capital via the process of (failed) narrativization. Most critics see Lynch's work as a revelatory form of subversive aesthetics, but his politics are aggressively reactionary. His deliberately failed narratives often devolve into spectacle whose enjoyment centers on the desire to punish or obliterate otherness, which in his work often figures as a stand-in for ideological transgression. The classic examples of this dynamic are Blue Velvet and Wild at Heart, but Twin Peaks, as I recall, adheres to this framework as well.

I'd say so, Laura Palmer was certainly punished for her drug use and prostitution, but I'm not sure how much the audience was supposed to enjoy it. And amid a huge cast of eccentric/evil/just-plain-broken characters, Cooper is practically a saint, but of course a lot of that was to set up his possession.

roger ebert always had an uncomfortable hatred for "blue velvet" and it made me sad. that is one genuinely fucked up, but amazing film.

While I loved what happened last night I know that was PTFB time for most people. That was intentional, lynch wants a viewer drop off figures it was a long enough time to cut out the people who are watching this because of hype only. Dudes been trying to scare those people off since day one.

I am glad that that hour of television existed.

So let's unpack this together, Erotic Lawyer.

The testing of the atomic bomb tore a hole in the universe that allowed the Black Lodge spirits to cross over from their world to ours. The thing that lives in the glass box created Bob and the blackfaced wraiths (one of which has been haunting the prison in South Dakota since the beginning of this shindig), but while the wraiths appeared fully formed, Bob arrived as a newly hatched cockroach frog. The White Lodge found out about this and created Laura Palmer to fight the evil of the Black Lodge, but she still has to be born in our world. Meanwhile, the wraiths are able to kill anyone with touch or voice, but the preteen girl doesn't die from hearing his voice, she just falls asleep and opens her mouth to let the cockroach frog inside her where it will presumably turn into Bob and possess her -- I'm guessing that the mostly good people all died from This Is The Water And This Is The Well but this girl had enough evil deep in her heart to host Bob, so she didn't succumb.

tl;dr: gotta light? gotta light? gotta light? gotta light?

That seems to be what it was about. Or eraser head for people forced to watch it in the middle of the show.

He is playing for his core audience for sure which is himself and everyone who fawns over him. It's great. Showtime knew what they were in for. If you weren't a lynch fan this was never for you.

If this isn't quite the best series in the history of television, parts 8 and 16 were at least the best two hours in the history of television. Real talk.

Well I think lynch and frost definetly appeased every type of twins peak fan a little. 8 and 16 were so awesome to a "Lynch" fan no doubt. I do understand why they are off putting to some but I am with you. I will chime in more when I have a minute.
