Not really into Maher anymore and that was a bad, bad joke, but still hope this isn't the end of him on general principle.

Ugh... He used it in a joke. It was funny. Pussification of America continues. Besides, his condoning of a 12 year old boy being raped by a grown woman was way worse.

"Come here and work the fields" set the wheels in motion for Maher to make an edgy joke about either slaves or Mexican immigrants. Either way he was going to step in the shit, but "I'm a house n*****" got him neck-deep.

I kinda always thought this would be how Bill Simmons, not Maher, would destroy his career.

Ike, you need a better sense of humor if you found it funny. It wasn't.

I don't think he should be fired but he should be savvy enough to avoid the word, even if he felt using it would be humorous.

Well, at least it wasn't a hard R.

I can't say whether HBO, of all channels, will fire an established talent for using a bad word, but Maher is going to be high and dry on this one: conservatives are gunning for any liberal's head for any reason, he's alienated the left by being such a Hillary kissass, and his loyalty to the Hillary people will get him nothing because they'll eat their own for using a racial slur any day of the week.

Hbo released a statement saying it was inexcusable. I'd be shocked if he gets fired for this. But his show is getting worse every year and I don't think he's very relevant anymore so I can see them wrapping it up with him in the next year or so anyway

Yeah, like Keith Olbermann and DailyKos, he feels like a relic from a time when all you had to say was "the Republicans: they're bad!" and be heralded as a champion of the truth. His brand of Hollywood liberalism feels bankrupt, too.

He didn't say it with malice. But he still shouldn't have said it. White people can't use the word for comedy. That's just the way it is.

HBO won't fire him, though.

He knew he was wrong right away when he quickly told the crowd "It's a joke" after they gasped.

I do like the show, but I have no idea what he was going for with that "joke". Seems like he was going for shock value, if anything. I also didn't care for pounding the Covfefe tweet. The tweet was obviously a typo. The funny part about it was Sean Sphincter trying to pretend that it was a legitimate tweet, and that certain people knew what he meant by that. It's like the female panelist said last night. The fact that he thinks everybody is so stupid that they would believe that, shows how stupid he really is.

He tries to be edgy sometimes and it seems forced. This was one of those times.

Don't sweat it--the Huff Post is checking in to offer us some (frequently correctly-spelled) moral clarity:

Huff Post wrote:

Bill Maher is getting a lot of heat for using a racial slur on his show Friday night, but this is hardly the first time Maher has made controversial comments.

The television host typically defends his racist, sexist, transphobic and Islamophobic remarks as a part of his anti-politically correct rhetoric. “Real Time With Bill Maher” has long been a place where the host could make comments that degrade almost every minority group.

Maher once compared prominent Muslim singer Zayn Malik to the Boston Marathon bomber and claimed that millions of Muslims supported the Charlie Hedbo attacks.

He normalized former Brietbart editor Milo Yiannopoulus, who is known for his hateful ideas about the transgender community. Maher even invited Yiannopoulus on his show, defending his claims that controversial bathroom laws were protecting women and children.

After former Fox News host Bill O’Reilly compared Rep. Maxine Water’s hair to a James Brown wig, Maher wondered why women of color were offended.

“Why is that racist? Because she’s compared to black people?” Maher said on his show.

He also once accused Hillary Clinton of crying in 2008 as a campaign strategy. And during the 2014 Gaza War, Maher compared the designated terrorist group Hamas to a “crazy woman.”

Bill Maher ✔ @billmaher
Dealing w/ Hamas is like dealing w/ a crazy woman who's trying to kill u - u can only hold her wrists so long before you have to slap her

Maher has gotten away with these types of comments for years as the leading voice on television against Republicans and now President Donald Trump. His show is constantly taking on Trump’s comments and actions without filter.

But people were quick to point out that his use of a racial slur is far from shocking. Maher’s history has raised concerns over his position as a “voice for liberals.”

It wasn't funny at all but not because he said "n*gger" but because the actual joke sucked.

The whole apology is so silly though.

He should have said "Ah, fuck you, get over it" and left it at that. Now that would have made me laugh.

That's true. I didn't understand what he meant by the joke. Actually, Bill Maher probably doesn't even know what he meant.

He meant he wasn't toil-in-the-fields material as Ben's Ass suggested.
