Apparently he's retiring from acting. What's your favorite Daniel Day-Lewis movie? Light 'em up!

He's the goods. This would suck.

Gays of New York. It was either a hockey flick, porn movie, or something of a historical drama.

Favorite? Gangs of New York.

Can't completely confirm I ever saw another movie he was in...

He was typically awesome in There Will be Blood.

He was notoriously selective about the roles he chose.

There Will Be Blood. I can't stand film and film actors, but that man breathed life into a dull story.

The Crucible was pretty good.

After looking at his Wikipedia page, I know I saw Lincoln, too.

He's just so diabolical in this movie. Idk if he's my favorite actor ever, but he probably is the best actor of this generation.

In a way I thought his character was the story.

An intense guy, the son of a well-known poet. He quit a production of Hamlet after a few days because he was badgered by the memories of his father.

I think Mohicans was probably my favorite of his movies but thats because of the time frame in which I saw it more than any great quality of film in comparison to his other works. In the name of the Father was one I had pretty much forgotten about it but I do remember liking it.

There are few actors or actresses that can command the audience the way DDL can. Each movie was almost an automatic Oscar nomination.

While not the be-all-end-all of ratings, Rotten Tomatoes is a fairly good indicator of a movie's success... check his stats out:

He was great in Gangs of NY but that movie sucked balls. You don't hand a major theatrical role to Cameron Diaz AND ask her to have an accent.

He's great in everything. I cannot think of a role that he did not play perfectly.

I'm glad that others agree with me. It seemed like the first time I said Gangs Of New York was a terrible movie that everyone told me I was wrong.

Lewis was great in it though but the rest of the movie was a pointless steaming pile of garbage.

There are actresses working that are over 60. And there are not that many male actors getting leading roles that are over 60. It is mainly the top of the line actors getting roles when they are 60+.

Not to mention that most of the women they mention are still working.

That article is straight trash. Meryl Streep is in a new movie every year. If you are known for being great at acting and draw in an audience you get work. If you are a model who acts your work dries up as you age.

I would say that if you want to work into your 70s then Hollywood isn't the right choice for you regardless of gender.

Certainly the case. It's like saying sports is being really ageist and not appreciating the contributions of 50 year old athletes.
