Jim Belushi becomes a pot farmer in Oregon. How could this not be entertaining?

He's aged but is still funny with his Belushi humor. A guy he has working for him sounds just like Dennis Farina with that strong accent. There's a surprise in the 3rd episode, but I'm not going to ruin it for anyone.

Where in Chicago do you have to grow up to have the Dennis Farina accent? I've always wondered about that.

That's a damn good question. It's a very specific white working-class accent. My mom kind of has it, and she grew up in Logan Square (before gentrification, even before white flight). Some guys I knew in high school--they were students at St. Pat's--had it, too. They grew up in the Belmont-Central neighborhood. In general, though, I think gentrification has made it harder to find on the North Side. I would imagine there are several South Side enclaves where it remains prevalent.

My father grew up in Cicero and didn't have it, nor his father. Only my uncle in my family has it slightly. You know you're hearing it when you hear the person pronounce "three" as "tree." I've always found that amusing.

Maybe it's more pronounced in Chicago Italian families?

Speaking of Farina, I watched again the final airport scene in Midnight Run. Going toe-to-toe with all-time tough guy New Yorker, Deniro, Farina completely dominates him in that great scene. The Chicago guy showed who the real boss was.

I kind of tie it to Roger's Park but you can find it in any of the places with a republican alderman.

It's a Streets and San type of accent.

It was definitely big in Logan Square prior to the great Polish Migration up Milwaukee Avenue.

I lived in Rogers Park for many years and didn't hear it too much there.

I associate it more with Poles than other ethnicities. But that's probably just because Poles are a disproportionately large part of the Chicago population.

Jim has never been funny. I cannot for the life of me understand how he still works. Awful.

He was hilarious in that movie 'Real Men' with John Ritter.

Ass kisser Les calls in S & P defending Jim Belushi. Some classic Les quotes. 3 bad sportsradio hosts talking about a bad comedic actor.

My Maternal Grandmother had it pretty strong, especially the "trees", but I thought it was more the Pole than the 46th/Western background.

I don't watch weed shows, he's a crappy actor. His best performance was in Thief( 80's flik filmed here) he didn't have many lines but he was decent.

My accent isn't quite as ridiculous as Farina's was, but it's close enough. Oddly, neither of my parents had an accent as pronounced as mine.

Wait until two days after you have a sore throat and then go read about the Great Northern Cities Vowel Shift. Practice saying the vowels and you'll see how many words you pronounce deep in your throat. Then listen to your punk kids, who don't know how to pronounce boat or caddie. Stupid kids don't know how to talk.

Supposedly, the younger ones are putting the h sound in certain st words (like Krauts) more than Gen Xers, but I don't hear my kids say this: It is not shtraight, it lives on the shtreet, etc. I do this all the time, so who knows.

His chemistry with Tupac was outstanding. Tupac brang out the best in him. Had Tupac not passed on, Jim Belushi would have been this generation's Tom Hanks.

Gang Related was a good movie. I actually saw it in the theater when it came out, if you can believe it. The ending is unbelievable, but I won't spoil the details.

Now I have to watch it again.

I would never have pictured JORR with a Farina accent. That's funny.
