Will it be good or just a money grab?

Like that Harrison Ford is back for it. But a blind Jared Leto as the villain? I dunno about that.

Might be the only movie I see this year.

The title is Blade Runner 2049.

Jared Leto is a top notch actor. Don't worry about that casting choice.

The director is one of the best new directors in Hollywood.

Don't fret.

But you should edit your title to the correct name.

I saw this today. It looks like this is going to be a flop, since it only pulled in like $30 million for the weekend. it cost $150 million. it'll probably be saved overseas but i don't see this turning into a franchise.

this is a toss up for me. it is way, way too long for the amount of narrative it tries to support. the story is very basic and pretty easy to follow but they throw so much filler in that it makes it, at times, difficult to enjoy.

it is definitely wonderful to look at. the visuals and imagery is very well done. the soundtrack is interesting but something the sound effects editing is really fucking noisy and it can get a little distracting.

it's always raining, shitty weather, and it goes from claustrophobic to wide open and cavernous at various points. i'm sure there is some symbolism in there...there's definitely some underlying story about what it means to be human, to have a soul, and to have self-worth.

but it takes forever to get to the climax, and i can't see anyone not familiar with this story being impressed or interested.

jared leto's character is also completely unnecessary. and he has really no resolution; it makes me think they were setting this up for a sequel or some kind of continuation. frankly, i don't think this was enough to keep my interest to follow it through.

the world that this exists in is very vast and, again, visually strong. but there isn't much character development and gosling is always a tough nut to crack.

i kept going back and forth whether i ultimately liked it or not but i think the bloated running time, and some of the outright boring filler, this is a just-miss for me. i didn't dislike it, i just didn't like it enough, i guess.

:D :D out of :D :D :D :D

I’ve really tried to like Blade Runner. Gave it another go last week in anticipation of maybe seeing this.

It’s just not very good.

it's never been one of my favorite cult flicks. i think it's loved by film buffs because of the noir style and the look of it, which has never been doubted as exceptional. but the story is pretty stale and without rutger hauer's performance, it's quite unremarkable.

the director's cut was definitely an improvement, losing the narration (that harrison ford didn't want to do in the first place), but i still never really got into the film as much as others did.

For some reason I got excited when I first learned they were making this, but then I remembered that while I can appreciate the original, I really didn't like it. Then I saw the nearly 3 hour running time...I'll pass.

I watched this last night and agree both with W_Z's review and those who said they just can't get into the original despite feeling like they should really like it.

I though Ryan Gosling was very good in Lars and The Real Girl, The Place Beyond the Pines, and Drive. Didn't know Edward James Olmos was in this.

I kind of liked the curveball in the Director's Cut, though--one that really wasn't in the novel...

I sometimes think that there were some miscast actors in the film, but then I wonder if that was the point? I dunno.

I have that one memorized and I'm gonna type it off the top of my head:

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched c-beams glitter in the dark at the Tannhauser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time like tears in rain. Time to die.

I like to pull it out at parties once in awhile if I'm in the right crowd.

Speaking of which, I was at a party last night and my wife made two of her English major friends and me attempt to recite the General Prologue from The Canterbury Tales. The two girls got much further than I did. I could only make it to "Of which vertu engendred is the flour".

One of the women is an English teacher. She was rattling it off in impressive fashion.

I think most people know it in Middle English, I know my wife does.

You have a remarkably cool wife! ME is a great dialect--really, really beautiful.

We have hotter chicks and better music, but the English, from about 1300-1500, have the best-sounding version of English.

Chaucer is bawdy as hell.

I finally got around to seeing this movie the last couple of days and could not finish it.

The good: cinematography. The bad: the female boss character. The ugly: replicants can reproduce.

The premise of the movie is terrible, making it unwatchable. To be avoided.

Yes, especially when rendered in the velvety tones of Joe Orr Road Rod's Chicago accent.

let me take a stab without any cheating (no points off for spelling):

Wan than April with the shores asoot
the drought of March hath pierced to the root
and bathed every vein in swich liquor
from which virtu an gender is the floor
and Zepherus eek with swetest breath
inspired he from every heart and heath
the tender cropes

I used to know the first 20 lines. That middle about the ram screws me up because I remember the last few once I get To Canterbury the wende
