New animated show on Netflix with Nick Kroll and John Mulaney. I think it's going to be a polarizing show in part because the animation and character design aren't exactly the nicest to look at, and the show is very very very dirty, bordering on offensive.

Once you get beyond that what you are left with is a surprisingly heartwarming take on puberty and all that comes with it.

This show looks like some trash cooked up by stoned Berkley students.

I watched the first two episodes. They were very funny and the show is as SpiralStairs described.

The character of Nick looks like Bernstein probably did at that age:

I watched the first 1.5 episodes. It was funny, but I dont see how it transfers to a long term thing. How long can we laugh at puberty?

Bojack Horseman is also pretty funny

I was laughing so hard at the scene at the 7:00 minute mark of the first episode where Nick's dad explains his sexual experimentation in college, and why it's OK, that I had to rewind it twice to hear everyting that was said. His mannerisms combined with the dialogue killed me.

Nick's Dad: Nicholas, we're your parents.
Nick's Mom: You can tell us anything.
Nick: Okay. Last night, when he was changing I saw Andrew's penis.
Nick's Dad: And now you're worried you're a homosexual? Nicky, a man can touch another penis or even kiss one, very lightly, and it still doesn't necessarily mean he's a homosexual. When I was an undergraduate...your mother knows this story...
Nick: Dad, I'm not worried I'm gay.
Nick's Mom: Honey, it's fine if you are.
Nick's Dad: It's better.
Nick's Mom: And by the way, you could do a lot worse than Andrew Glouberman.

I might give this a chance. Generally shy away from animated shows.

I got through the first 4 episodes last night and found this to be relatively enjoyable. A lot of sophomoric humor and some bad taste but some of
that is what makes it fun to watch. Pretty high powered cast. I'll keep going and see how the rest of season 1 goes. The gym teacher had me
laughing pretty good in episode 2 when he had to run to the 7/11 to go to the bathroom and then his conversation when he comes back.

Season3 out and I’m almost through it. It is just ok. Not as funny as past seasons. I think they are running out of material.

wolfpack strong

but I haven't seen an episode. My friend loves it but he is a diovorcee with a frequently empty house that allows for watching shows touching on adult subjects

Slate's apology for voicing a black character is a tad overwrought.

https://www.msn.com/en-us/tv/news/jenny ... r-BB15VIOK

Quote:
Jenny Slate is exiting the cast of Netflix's "Big Mouth," the actress announced on Wednesday, saying that her decision to voice a Black character was a mistake.

"At the start of the show, I reasoned with myself that it was permissable for me to play 'Missy' because her mom is Jewish and White — as am I. But 'Missy' is also Black, and Black characters on an animated show should be played by Black people," Slate said in a statement shared to Instagram.

Slate has been with the show since its premiere in 2017. Her character, Missy, has a Black father and a white mother, voiced by Jordon Peele and Chelsea Peretti.

"I acknowledge how my original reasoning was flawed, that it existed as an example of white privilege and unjust allowances made within a system of societal white supremacy, and that in me playing 'Missy,' I was engaging in an act of erasure of Black people," Slate continued. "Ending my portrayal of 'Missy' is one step in a life-long process of uncovering the racism in my actions."

She ended her post by apologizing and promising to engage in "meaningful anti-racist action" while being more careful in choosing her future roles.

In his own statement, series co-creator Nick Kroll voiced support for Slate's decision and offered his own apology on behalf of the show's other creators. "We made a mistake, took our privilege for granted, and we're working hard to do better moving forward," he said.

Kroll also said the character will be recast for future episodes.

Last summer, Netflix renewed the series through Season 6.

What she should apologize for is her horrendous stand up special on Netflix.

It is strange to have a white person play a black character, even if it's just animation. It's not something you can think about too hard, though, or else you starting thinking about Doug and whether a black actress should have played Patti Mayonnaise, or if Patti could really be coded as black while being named after mayonnaise, and then there's Skeeter, who was blue, or Roger, who was green, or Mr. Dink, who was purple. People of color indeed. Where is this going? I'm like Millennial Tommy here.

But I dunno, it does clang, I'm surprised they went for it in the first place.

If a person is a voice actor and there is no such thing as "sounding black" then why would it matter the racial makeup of the body that produced the voice.

There is actually a kind of perfect equality that they are destroying.

It's completely bizarre for a show that aspires to be so iconoclastic would have even considered this an issue to address.

Anyway, the show holds interest for about half a season but then gets incredibly monotonous.
