I learned a trick from this show many many years ago that saved my butt.

I was out late at a bar and happened to get into an argument with some really bad guys. they were out to physically hurt me.

I drove out of there but these guys were out to get me and started chasing me in their car. After many turns I got lost in a part of town I had no idea about.

So I remembered an episode from the show where Jim Rockford turned his headlights off so the guys chasing him couldn't see his car. Did the same trick and was able to get out of there with my health :)

Were you driving a Trans Am?

It was around 1980. I think I was driving a Lincoln.

Leather interior?

I think so. It was a red interior. Red exterior. Like dark red magenta colored. It was a poor man's caddy back then.

Bucket seats?

My parents watched this show. They really liked it.

I always liked James Garner in stuff. He did a good job taking John Ritter's place.

There was a show with the girl from big bang theory, Jack Tripper, and Peg Bundy. Jack Tripper was the dad, he died. James Garner and David Spade took his place on the show. It was okay. Early 2000s maybe?

Greatest? In the team photo, sure.

First one comes to mind is Barney Miller ... Sanford & Son (a Quincy Jones composition btw) ... personal bias compels me to include Night Court ... Jeffersons ... Good Times ... people like the Cheers theme but I can take it or leave it ... Bob James' chart for Taxi is better than Cheers ... Hill Street Blues' was alright ... A-Team ... Letterman's original NBC opener is pretty good ... I'm rambling now.

Theme from S.W.A.T., another Mike Post masterpiece.

I don't think it's in the team photo of songs. Was it that popular of a show?

Some good thoughts in there.

They are all wrong. Maybe Hill Street Blues.

You have to put yourself in the time. Nothing was more of its time than Rockford.

It's too much to ask a show to predict the Taylor Swift tastes of the future. Take a note from Salieri.

I think I was 3 when the show ended. I remember my parents watching it but shows and theme songs that are more prominent in my memory same time frame Dallas, Dukes of Hazzard, Barney Miller, wkrp, Magnum, Hill Street, St Elsewhere... sure there is more.

Even Mr Ed, Green acres

8.1/10 IMDB
4.2/5 Hulu
8.4/10 TV.com
Ranked No. 39 on TV Guide's 50 Greatest TV Shows of All Time

Now pipe down young lady; the men are talking about television.

Sounds great. In terms of theme songs not on a lot of radars, I wouldn't think.

What about Jake and the Fatman... it so sure I ever watched it but the title strikes me as a show that would need a rename it made today.

CYE = best theme music of all time.

The guy who made Rockford also created Sopranos. Dunno if Sopranos opening music/sequence counts as a theme, as it was a pre-existing tune, not written specifically for the show. Maybe the 4th best song on that record, Exile on Coldharbour Lane. Their John Prine (Pride of Maywood, Illinois) cover being the best tune on that record.
