I saw a post from Panther the other day in which he was forcing his kids to watch a bunch of cartoons and shows from the 80s. I found it kind
of funny because in a way I have done the same with my stepson. Last year we had him watch Karate Kid and he loved it and wanted to watch
the sequels. One day I saw that Predator was on and we watched that together. A few weeks ago we were talking about Ray Liotta for some
reason, probably because he is on those "quit smoking" drug commercials. I asked him if he had ever seen Good Fellas and he had never heard of it
before. I was flabbergasted. Needless to say I have it recorded on the DVR and we will be giving it a viewing this weekend. Do you have any
movies like this that you feel really strongly about and have "forced" your kids to watch because it is either personal to you or a part of the
American lexicon that they should be exposed to?

I have had my sons, 8 and 5 respectively, watch The Goonies, Elf, Harry Potter, and Star Wars. They love all of those movies. Gonna give ET and possibly Indiana Jones a spin soon. Also gonna check out some of the 60s-70s live action Disney movies with them over Christmas break.

Might be a bit young yet, but recommend the original Karate Kid movie. They will enjoy and you get to ogle a young Elisabeth Shue.

We’ve done two of the Indiana Jones (Skipped temple of doom at request of my wife) and of course the Star Wars movies. Beyond that I can’t think of what I’ve made them watch besides some old cartoons and tv shows on MeTV. I’m thinking Rocky might be good but somehow I see my boys reinacting the fight scenes which won’t end well. Pretty sure the younger would Throw a punch below the belt.

The bond movies have also seemed like they’re getting there but they’ve showed little interest. My eldest boy has been eying Jaws. He has certain issues that might not do well with over stimulation so we have stayed away from scary stuff with him. He’s such a shark fanatic though I imagine he will spend the whole movie telling me that it’s not very realistic.

Don't we make fun of Baby Boomers for this kind of stuff?

Princess bride has been seen MANY times for MANY years.

Planes, Trains and Automobiles. I showed it several years when the kids were little, they got me a copy for Christmas one year, including the highly-vulgar rental car counter scene. My Mom stuck around after Thanksgiving dinner this year and watched with us- she had never seen the movie either. I forewarned her of the f-bomb barrage.

Watched The Breakfast Club with my daughter, she loved it.

I had to have a week of classics with the boys- Blues Brothers, Animal House, Caddyshack, Predator, etc. That were mostly bored silly.

Forgot that I did Rocky and Planes, Trains and Automobiles as well.

Had to take a walk down memory lane. Herbie the Love Bug(s). Couple were ok iirc. Mary Poppins, Sound of Music at some point. The Apple Dumpling Gang, The Shaggy D.A., Freaky Friday, Watership Down, Charlotte's Web, The Aristrocats and the Rescuers. I'll leave out the Xmas varietals.

T-Bone, not sure of the exact age but if you are going with Goodfellas you can roll with Deliverance, Deerhunter, the Sting, One Flew over the Cuckoo's nest, Fast Times at Ridgmont High, American Werewolf in London, Full Metal Jacket. How about Dirty Dancing or Beetlejuice?

The Lost Boys. 3 days ago. They loved it.

Holy shit no way - last weekend just watched Lost Boys blu-ray that we found in the cabinet!

We also hit up Raiders of the Lost Ark, and for some reason they recently completely fell in love with 'Tremors' (to the point of watching 5 of the 6 movies).

. . . You will have a brand new appreciation for Family Ties' Dad Michael Gross after checking out the Tremors franchise!

When they are a little bit older, we'll do 'Dune'. Wouldn't want to throw that one on 'em too soon, or they won't appreciate the Mua'dib!

Stepson is 15-1/2. I like all of your suggestions but I don't think he can handle an artsy film like Deerhunter or Cuckoos. He doesn't have much
patience so I thought something like Goodfellas might keep him engaged since it is a true story.
