You seemed starved for content if you are posting pre-trailer posters.

But yes, am bored.

Not judging. Her's a freebie pick. Check out Angel Heart on Amazon. It's free. Not a comic book base, but it a lot of supernatural elements.

Mickey Rourke and Lisa Bonet?

Saw it a long time ago.

Might have to revisit.

Yeah. De Niro is very good in in.

I need to re-watch that myself. Very good movie.

It wasn't bad. I kind of like it actually. The other movie was TERRIBLE. Us? I think? That was like torture watching that.

Agreed. I liked Get Out. I think I quit Us like 30 minutes into it. Just awful.

I realized a few years ago that I'm long removed from the target demographic and that the angles of most recent movies are lost on me.

Idk

Jordan Peele needs to nail this one for him to stay in my “must check out their work” list of directors.

I do agree with the consensus that “Us” was a big step down from “Get Out”.

He's the most recent oddly acclaimed director in the same weird vein as M. Night Shymalian (sp.?)

Now there's a guy I think is is total fraud.
Hes been accused of plagiarizing the only good movie he made. Everything after sixth sense was a pile of dog shit. The critics hate it but schmucks with bucks still back the hack for some reason. The one with the killer trees was a horrible joke. I swear that was a SNL skit that he optioned for a feature.

Yeah it does give me the same type of hyped feeling as when M Night first hit the scene.

I will say there is a difference between the two as Jordan Peele had a built in audience before his first film came out.

Albeit, I don’t think anyone in that audience expected such a stark turn from comedy to horror like that.

Yeah that movie was laughably terrible, but overall I like M. Night’s filmography.

It’s just the bad is really bad.

after the debacles of "the twilight zone", "lovecraft country" and "us"...i was still holding out hope that jordan peele wasn't so full of himself that he could redeem his rep as a great horror producer/director/writer.

he comes as close as he can to doing so with this creative, innovative and interestingly mysterious film. "Nope" is bizarre. it's not like "Us" where the illogical needs to be explained. the film wraps itself up in its strangeness, and doesn't try to explain any of it.

the most interesting and weird part about it is a subplot involving a failed sitcom called "gordy's home". i think that was the key to giving the film breadth.

all of the hype will follow keke palmer (she's really not that great, but you know...) but it's daniel kaluuya's performance that seals this film. he is, for me, the new denzel. everything about his understated way of acting brings power to his performances. and it's essential in this movie.

this is great entertainment. it sticks the landing. and it features one of my favorite "that guys" in michael wincott. looks old, still has that voice.

highly recommend.

Unlike US where he tries to explain the strangeness and fails horribly. Seems like lazy writing to me. Stephen King has the same issue with not knowing how to close out novels.

It's a nope for me until it hits a streaming platform for free.

My wife - who liked Peele’s previous stuff - went to see this, and said it was one of the worst movies she’d ever seen.

Boy, that was a strange one. I can't tell if I loved it or if it annoyed me. A few of the main characters were just there for the plot, and I think that is what annoyed me. Or something. I can't put my finger on it. Em got too much screen time, Jupe not enough? I dunno.

But that was pretty damn original. Some truly disturbing scenes. I've heard someone say it was an allegory for fame or something, and maybe that's intended, but it's much more than that. It was pretty funny in parts, but not too funny to ward off the strange bleakness I felt afterwards.
