gonna check this out tomorrow. actually looks pretty awesome...wish it was premiering in theaters also like they did with "doctor who" premiers years ago.

I liked the trilogy movies but certainly not a fan. I tried to read The Hobbit a number of years back and don't think I made it past the first chapter before putting it down. I'll check it out because I am kind of already paying for it but not sure I will stick with it. I would like to see what it's like for what it costs to make. I was pretty disappointed in The Wheel of Time overall.

Yeah I never read books either. I liked the first 2 movies a lot and the 3rd was ok...Peter Jackson was starting to go nuts with the CGI and hero shots. I watched both episodes. I think biggest thing working against it is Cate Blanchett played Galadriel in the movies. There is no comparison to girl in series. Plus Galadriel is supposed to be good with magic and in series she's uber god girl. She's like a general of the army and a commando or something and yes she does kick ass and save those dumb ol' men so they get that trope in early. Another thing working against it is no Hugo Weaving. The guy playing Elrond wasn't very good either IMO.

I think this show has a lot working against it as I don't think its from a book its from the notes Tolkien did so they're doing all the heavy lifting. I thought they got off to a rough start. The special effects are very good. I might watch one more episode but I don't think this is for me.

I watched the first episode last night, and I have to admit I was having a hard time remaining interested but towards the end I started enjoying connecting with it a bit more. I will watch another episode or two to see if it gains any more traction with me. It looked very nice, you can tell they invested a lot in this show.

i think the hardest part for me to get over will be not having howard shore's original iconic music. it's burned into my brain as this is what JRR tolkein's books would've *sounded* like. i know he did the theme for the show (which echoes back a little) but it's not the same.

It looked and sounded great. The music was properly epic.

Amazon really hyped this up way too much. It's going to be flawless to match up to the hype.

Compare that to the GoT show where it was basically like "We are going to work on nine spinoffs, cancel the ones that we know will suck, and hopefully one of them is good enough for you all".

I don't think it helped that the new Game of Thrones just came out. With all its flaws I liked it better and they didn't spend a billion dollars...

I don't know why they give these massive projects to people who have a limited track record.

the reviews are saying the opposite. that this show is putting GOT's prequel to shame. i have no interest in HOTD and i don't have hbo anymore, but i'm more inclined to LOTR anyway.
