My moms family was that way. Her mom was the oldest and ended up raising the youngest after my great grandparents died. 9 kids but three sets of twins. Actually. My moms dad’s family was that way too but all single kids on a dairy farm in northern Wisconsin. Apparently Sweden wasn’t cold and dreary enough so Ashland Wisconsin was perfect.

It blew my mind families so huge, that a 3rd grader was an uncle to a 4th grader. It was a riddle to me, I couldn't figure it out.

It was announced in my class, and to me, when I was 11 years old that I had just become the youngest Uncle in my school.

My niece is closer to my age than my brother....by a lot.

youngest of 8, 7 survived to adulthood (at least adulthood in the legal sense). Approx 3 years in between each kid. Oldest sibling had their first kid when I was 10...months.

I know a kid who is the last of 16. I'm sure his parents were very attentive and involved with the first couple...the 16th was basically Nell.

My wife is the baby of seven kids and a bit of an Irish Catholic surprise to them. It is a bit fun to be around such a large family especially since I am away from mine back in Illinois. That said, she had to deal with her father dying when she was 16 and her mom and brother passing away in normal age range. The other thing that took me a minute to think about was her oldest sibling is the same age as my mom.

My buddy has four younger sisters, he was 18 when the last was born. His wife is the youngest of five, 21 years younger than her oldest brother. Makes for quite the generational party when both sides get together, like graduations and weddings.

We bucked the current social trends by stretching out the generations- Grandpa was born in 1901, my daughter in 1999
