It's more about business than basketball. Although they do make an observation in the movie about the NCAA Championship game that I'd never really heard before that I thought was interesting.

Silly movie. Over exaggerated EVERYTHING. Fitting that Chris Tucker was in it. The underdog nike? WYC? It was Converse that never had a shot. Adidas and Nike were neck and neck from the very start. Adidas was in fact, a superior product at that time.

How much dough did Nike put into this movie?

When I was a kid my mom bought me Nike’s and kids made fun of me. Reebok was the brand of status.

When he signed with Nike, it was a sports stunner. People hated Sonny Vaccaro for years afterwards.

And I don't know that silly fits here. It was much better than I thought it would be. I didn't even see the commercials as serious for awhile.

Because I ran track I was already wearing Nikes, but I didn't get a pair of their basketball shoes for a couple of years later.

There were some pretty juvenile scenes. Probably done to make Sonny and Deloris look like super heroes. These GIANTS were in a world of morons.

Chicago has had two of the most iconic teams in their respective sports during my lifetime with the 85 bears and the jordan bulls

Solid three star movie. I enjoyed watching it, but have some minor quibbles. One, it was overly dramatic in parts (what was up with all the motivational speeches?) Two, they really leaned hard into recreating 1984. It made it obvious that, at least on some level, they were just trying to revel in 80's nostalgia.

They had to lean into recreating 84. Otherwise it would have come off really dumb.

I thought it was an OK movie. As mentioned above by another poster I did like the scene breaking down the championship shot Jordan made for NC. My wife, daughter and I all enjoyed it well enough, it was a decent Sunday night watch.

Did you think that scene where the camera follows Matt Damon around the 7-11 and focuses on the packaging was necessary? It just seemed gratuitous to me.

Yeah I get there was silly things in it. But I would rather had it like that than not lean into 84 at all.

Like I said I get there is some silly things in it. Of course they did not have to do all of that.

But I don't really see how that caused the movie to be bad.

Some people liked the movie. Some didn't.

Its all cool.

Sentimentality sells, I know I was recalling when that shoe came out during the movie with my daughter, and all the music and 1984 references that were dropped made it more fun for me. The Magic and Bird posters they had on the walls at the Converse headquarters also brought back a lot of memories. There was nothing subtle about what they were doing in this movie with all that stuff and that was fine with me.
