I hope AMC shows Halloween II because they always show the additional scenes and alternate ending.

Last night I watched the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre. This film, along with Halloween, legitimately scared the shit out of me as a child. TCM is really made very well. I tend to think that the really good movies make you notice not only the actors' performances but also the scenery and atmosphere in which their performances take place. In other words, in a great film you will notice everything. Some films are carried by the actors, while are others are shot visually well but it is not often everything comes together. I'm not saying the TCM is a cinematic masterpiece but it does what it was meant to do so well. Even now as an adult I still had to turn away from the screen when they cut Marilyn Burns' finger so ole grandpa can suck her blood. :puker: :pukel:

Hands down the best horror movie of all time, though people who have seen the Guinea Pig movies from Japan will argue nothing is more disturbing than those films. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre was so unbelievable creepy and disturbing yet actually showed very little in terms of violence and bloodshed. From the first moment you hear John Larroquette's voice you know it's going to be an experience. You know it's not real, but in the back of your mind you keep thinking, "Man I bet you shit like this actually happens."

It's a shame that the legacy has been tarnished with Bay produced remakes. There's a whole generation out there who have no knowledge of the original film and only associate Leatherface with Jessica Biel. What a travesty.

i refuse to see the remake of TCM. and i'm pretty much against the remake of "nightmare on elm street" too, although i'm not as strongly opposed.

to me, "friday the 13th" and "nightmare" were more along the lines of "slasher" that it almost seems inevitable for them to be remade.

TCM was a true horror film classic. though it had sequels, it never needed them. "nightmare" had some decent sequels, and "friday" had its best with 3 and 4.

speaking of tobe hooper; little fun fact about "poltergeist". it was originally a conception by steven spielberg who wanted to follow "close encounters" up with a scary alien movie called "Night Skies" (originally called "Watch the Skies") and it was based on the Kelly-Hopkinsville Encounter of 1955. he ditched the idea for the family-friendly "E.T." (though the premise was somewhat similar), and basically had hooper make "poltergeist" out of the idea, only using ghosts instead of aliens. and even cast & crew members thought of "poltergeist" as a spielberg movie, not a hooper film.

Without sounding too sharky, Sci-Fi will be having a live Ghosthunters on Halloween where they are investigating Essex County Hospital.

I like watching this show, but usually the live stuff is a waste of time - maybe this will be different.

WGN America, the former WGN Superstation, has been airing a "Munsters" marathon since 3p this afternoon with shock rock icon Alice Cooper as host. WGN(A) has another classic Halloween-themed sitcom tomorrow 2-10p on DIRECTV 307 which came out around the same time as Herman, Lily, Eddie, Grandpa & Marilyn at 1313 Mockingbird Lane between 1964-66. It's the "Addams Family", followed later in the night at 11p by "Pet Sematary 2". Meanwhile, if you are a "Svengoolie" fan like I am, WCIU 26 The U and WWME 23 Me TV present a modern classic from the SONY/Columbia Pictures archives tomorrow. The 1992 box office blockbuster "Bram Stoker's Dracula" airs at 9p on The U and at 1a, right before we move the clocks back an hour, on Me TV. Thought you'd want to know...

Didn't they also collaborate on the mini series taken? I once heard on Coast to Coast am that Spielberg has an enormous collection of alien implant devices claimed to have been taken from abductees. It's obvious he has an interest in the paranormal, maybe even one that rivals Aykroyd's.

Man another year another year with no Trilogy of Terror. That freaked me out as a kid esp the last one with the little African Doll. I had nightmares for a week first time I watched it.

Fright Night was one that had me scared as a little guy. Is this just a subpar
horror movie now or are the networks just missing this one?

Edit - Under closer review I see it is being run on Encore. Does this ever play on cable?
Question still stands as to whether it is still a viable horror flick.

I'm suprised The Blair Witch Project doesn't get more play this time of year. It would seem to be a movie that works better on TV than the big screen. Also, it is kind of a seminal movie in the horror genre. They should have an entire night of hand held camera horror movies with Blair Witch, Paranormal Activity and that one about the monster in NYC.

Cloverfield, which I loved. Blair Witch is a little better on TV, but it still sucks IMO. Paranormal Activity was alright.

I am not a huge fan of Blair Witch. I like it and might watch it if it was on but I'd probably flip around to other stuff. Like it or not, you have to recognize it's importance to the the genre. It really started a different way of filming.

I am not a huge fan of Blair Witch. I like it and might watch it if it was on but I'd probably flip around to other stuff. Like it or not, you have to recognize it's importance to the the genre. It really started a different way of filming.

I completely agree. I really do enjoy the serio-documentary shaky hand held camera action when there is something to go with the movie. Blair Witch is fine example of "If it's on and I don't have anything else to do, I'll watch it". Paranormal Activity is much better on a TV with surround sound hooked up. I will wait for the sequel to come on PPV before I see it though.

Hey baller, how are the rest of us normal schmucks supposed to watch it with our regular tv speakers.

I absolutely love the original Halloween and rarely miss an opportunity to watch it when it's on TV. It's transmogrification of suburban loneliness and isolation--the long, spacious tracking shots of empty side streets littered with darkened homes are an especially effective use of the landscape to develop the film's ominous mood--into social pathology is quite interesting. While the film most obviously reacts against sexual freedom, it is also a partially realized meditation on the context in which that freedom can occur--on the kind of society that provides the space for such loneliness and the adornments to mask it. Halloween is in many ways a cinematic masterpiece.

Man another year another year with no Trilogy of Terror. That freaked me out as a kid esp the last one with the little African Doll. I had nightmares for a week first time I watched it.
I'm with you on that although the other 2 stories were disappointing. Another movie I recall as being disturbing as a youth was "Don't Be Afraid of the Dark". Little hooded creatures emerge from a formerly closed fireplace and drive the wife seemingly insane.

i thought i was reading too much into the way it was shot. :) i think it's one of the best atmospheric and true horror films ever made. after i saw 'the thing' i thought...maybe this is John carpenter's best. But then I rewatched "halloween" and its simplicity and undertone approach is just pulled off so well. I love the scenes of Michael just watching...it's great stuff.
