the watered down writing isn't deterring me from enjoying the show, but it has been critically accurate to point it out. it's definitely not a total washout the way that "lost" was.

i think the writers could have come up with a better way to end the story had they not gotten into fan fiction, which they clearly did. there was a ton of fan service in this season. and now they pretty much have to follow through on that.

i like that they're shooting multiple endings, though. they've finally caught on that the show is primed to be spoiled. but we are most likely going to know all the endings and just will have to guess which one they use.

prop bets will be huge.

Low key my biggest hope is Theon somehow gets his cock back.

Sure, he was a cocky (yay puns) immature kid, but castration was a bit much.

Even the most satisfying end to Theon's story doesn't do much for me. He's not a major player to me even if he redeems himself. Why should I care about him? He's a nobody even if he gets his sister back and they kill their uncle. I'd much rather have someone like Rob back if I had a choice.

Robb was a loser. He's essentially the Bret Hart (zero personality) of GoT.

If we could have them back top 5

Tywin
Ned
Margery (hot)
Joffrey

I keep seeing this. Is that what happened? From everything I've seen it's been that GRRM gave them the ending and the main plot beats that would happen. The writers clearly haven't cared about the intricacies of the deep plotting that the books and early seasons are known for, but I don't know that it's fair saying they just went with bad fanfic.

I meant to put Oberyn in mine.

Also didn't count anyone who died this past season. No time to miss them yet.

What was Doran like in the books?

He was smart and isn't the fool everyone thinks he is.

He forged an alliance with the Targaryens before the start of the books to overthrow Robert and restore the Targaryens to the throne.

Eh I don't know, I liked Robb. Much was made about Margery being this talented schemer but she barely got a chance to demonstrate any of that. Her highlights were manipulating Tommen into asking his mom to leave King's Landing, and some passive aggressive shot she landed on Cersie in front of all of Margery's friends. Then Cersei had her imprisoned and blown up.

Joffrey had to die at some point. He was a King in name only since Tywin called all the shots, or at least the important ones. That basically reduced Joffrey to a glorified torturer and sadist. I mean he got grounded in full view of his own small council and escorted to his room by his mom. Totally useless.

Ned's death was (obviously) important. Not only for the plots it fueled, but to also drive home the tension that they revisit from time to time: honor/code vs deceit/pragmatism. I love when they go back to that tension. Jamie is beginning to embody it after Brienne seemed to bring out the part of him that resembles Ned's way of doing things, which is conflict with his Tywin/Cersi side.

Well obviously they all had to die for the story. Just saying the characters I miss most.

No I get you. There's just so many interesting side characters. Love that about this show.

Im unclear on this. I've heard this before, but also heard that the whole point of the story was the Jon-Dany meeting which was nowhere near happening yet at the Red Wedding.
It's both. He created the world with the idea that Dany-Jon would be the end game(and whatever happens with that story) but he planned to stop writing after the Red Wedding. It was going to be unfinished.

Over the past couple of weeks, I have re-watched the first six seasons. So much more makes sense now in the earlier episodes that I didn't have a clue what they were talking about previously.

The writing and the dialogue is terrific when watching with a more deeper understanding of the story and characters. I highly recommend reviewing the previous seasons to those who haven't yet.

I'm enjoying the thread and appreciate the different insights especially from you guys who read the books.

On a side note, I read in today's Trib that Jon Snow and that Wildling gal are engaged in real life... he really was looking at her arse hiking up that snowy hill.

Doran was smart and calculating. Playing a very long game much like Littlefinger and Varys.

Plus, he has a hot daughter in the books that George loves talking about her dark nipples. haha.

But of course! Didn't know if anyone would know that one. That's my hometown.

And don't get me started on Oogie's. Best root beer ever, hands down.

Agreed. That was the deluxe Friday meal for the bums like us working at Farm & Fleet - the old one, not the nice, new one.

I knew that Farm and Fleet well. Oogies was one of the only places open 24 hours, so that was always a go to after night's out.

She can't be that dumb.

Clarke: "I did, and since then, people are saying something on set and you're just like, 'I think that they're filming other stuff.' And everybody's being really cagey about it. And then there's a lot of like 'Wait why're you — what are you — wait a second.' Cause there's lots of different endings that could happen that I think that we're all doing all of them and we aren't being told which is actually what's gonna happen."

... But maybe she is.

Won Emmys for:

Best visual effects

Best supporting actor: Peter Dinklage

Best drama series

I guess season 7 wasn't all that bad?

No way did it deserve Best Drama. And I don't think Dinklage did anything to warrant a win in Supporting Actor. They seemed like familiar choices.
