What about Hot Pie?

Just finished a rewatch. I know a lot of us complained about Season 7’s writing even at the time, but upon rewatch it’s even more striking what happened after they ran out of source material. I’ve never read a page of the book but it’s quite clear the writing team on the show wasn’t up to Martin’s standards as a writer. It really was fanfic that got produced.

There’s also a lull around seasons 3-5 where I can’t consider this a top tier show of all time also. Like Alan Sepinwall said, it’s more a collection of great moments interspersed with filler than it is a great narrative story. Very entertaining show, pretty rewatchable, but way too much boring filler to put in the top 5 regardless of what happens these last 6 episodes.

Much like the books are essentially a series of watershed moments, the show built around those as well. As has been said, the difference is the books surround those moments with gripping dialogue (for the most part). The show suffered from Martin's paralysis of the pen. The whole story was supposed to be done by the time the show was caught up to the first five books.

The story of the last 2 seasons has been bad by the standards set by the book. But they've been good tv.

Man I guess I'm a heartless prick for saying this but The Door is extremely overrated. I thought it was kinda interesting but other than that didn't really give a fuck. People were acting like Hodor was the best character in tv history and his death was super tragic.

Not only do you have the awesome battle but the sub plots and dialogue (Ceresi and Sansa waiting to die, The Hound having is Lethal Weapon moment, Tryrion's hilarious speech)

My favorite scene in that episode is probably The Hound and Bronn about to fight before being interrupted.

For me Hardhome has always been the best but I think The Spoils of War (thanks Peeps!) is the best action the show has ever done.
