Best and Favorite are different things...

"Best" movie I saw last year would probably be Moneyball

Favorite was, far and away, Transformers 3.

Hell yeah, watched it twice. First time was a 'workprint', didn't have all the CGI or whatever. Didn't matter, solid story, quality writing, hot ass chicks--what more ya need.

now you've done it. time for W_Z's list of woody allen films for the non-woody fan.

these are movies that either don't feature woody, or only have him as a background character (such as a narrator or being featured in an interview or something):

1. Match Point - doesn't have him in it at all and you can hardly tell it's a woody allen film. one of the most effective thrillers i've seen in the modern era of film.

2. Sweet & Lowdown - this is a wonderful "musical" film about a jazz guitarist modeled after django reinhardt and it's one of sean penn's best performances. Woody Sighting: only in interviews as this is a "docudrama" style that features interviews with biographers or people that were associated with the character.

3. Radio Days - sweet nostalgia film about the "radio era" before television...feels like "brooklyn bridge" or "the wonder years". it's woody's sweetest film, in my opinion. Woody Sighting: serves as the narrator.

4. What's Up, Tiger Lilly? - not even really a woody allen film. In his early days, he snatched this japanese james bond rip off spy film and re-dubbed it with american actors, changing the story and making it into a very funny MST-like comedy. Woody Sighting: serves as interviewee about the film itself.

5. Purple Rose of Cairo - great film about the contrast of Hollywood glitz and glamor and the reality of it all when a character in a film that a woman is a huge fan of comes into her world. she falls for the actor who plays him, and the ending is a lot more sobering than you'd think it would be. Woody Sighting: like match point, none.

6. Bullets Over Broadway - very funny with john cusack playing the "woody" character very well. Throwback to screwball comedies. Has great performances. No Woody in this, either.

there are some dramas he did that don't feature him either but they're pretty stiff ingmar bergman clones that i never really got into.

Off the top of my head I would say 50/50 and X-Men First Class.

Me,Too!!! Best ending of any Superhero movie ever.

I grew up reading Captain America. It was a thrill seeing the material done right on the big screen. I would have preferred a little darker tone to fighting Nazis, though.

I also thought Mission Impossible was an action movie masterpiece. Of course, come Oscar time movies like this get ignored. MI has already made over 600 million worldwide.
