While this could have gone in the Under The Radar thread, this movie is too new to DVD and too good to be buried in a 3 page deep thread.

It's by Mike Judge (Office Space, Beavis and Butt-Head), and just came out on DVD last week. It’s a scathing satire on present day society by way of having a cryogenically frozen Luke Wilson (who I normally can’t stand) awake in a future 500 years from now where everyone is criminally stupid, and he is now the smartest man alive. It's absolutely fucking hysterical, with both with the dialog itself and the seemingly infinite amount of subtle sight gags.

Very highly recommended.

Was this one in theaters? It's not ringing any bells.

It literally got released on something like 30 screens. For whatever reason, Fox wanted to bury it.

Edit: I double checked, it was actually 125 screens, but that's still pathetic for a major studio release.

I prefer Owen Wilson, but Luke has his moments. I'll check it out.

I can't stand either of the Wilson brothers, with this movie being one of the few exceptions. I actually took offense once when a girl tried to compliment me and tell me I looked like Luke Wilson.

The other, of course, is Bottle Rocket.

At least it wasn't Woodrow Wilson.

I found both Wilsons AND Ben Stiller to be tolerable in The Royal Tenenbaums as well.

I had heard about this movie when it was in pre-production and made a mental note to keep an eye out for it in the theaters. I never knew it was even released, and just found out yesterday that it'll be on DVD soon. Why did Fox bury this thing?

It's been out on DVD since last Tuesday, the 9th, KV. I was on vacation, so I didn't get around to renting it til yesterday. My guess on why it got buried is that it is definitely NOT kind to several major corporations (Starbucks, Carl's Jr., to name a couple), and doesn't hesitate to mention them by name.

Idiocracy, is probably one of the stupidest movies I have ever seen in my life... I dont care if its satire on American society... Its just over the top and really dumb. Scenes like the president as some professional wrestler character and having a gladator arena with a monster truck and a Yugo! :(... Literally one of the dumbest movies I have ever seen in my life.

Stink,
You owe me $3.29 and 83 minutes of my life back for recommending this abortion. Maya Rudolph does have a smokin' body though.

I stand by my recommendation, Avenged. However, if there's ever a CSFMB meet and greet, I'll be glad to buy you a beer and dance a jig for 83 minutes if you truly feel you're entitled to it (the jig that is, I'll buy ya a beer either way). Or I can just write you a check and write "Haulin Ass, Gettin Paid" in the memo.

Saw it the other night, very funny and it doesn't suprise me the studio pissed on it, they had other bad Wilson brother movies to promote. I also found the movie scary in an "Inconvienet Truth" kinda way.

Watched it this weekend. Thoroughly unfunny.

One line did have me rolling in laughter "Come back...bating."

Had. Then she went on vacation to Pregnaho (yes, that's a Married with Children reference).

I wanted to see it when they had a limited release to a few theaters in Chicago a while ago, but was gone pretty quick. Saw the DVD, was really funny at the start but kind of dragged at the end. It did spawn a new overused catch-phrase in my circle of friends though. "It's got electrolytes!" finds it's way into a lot of conversations.

I finally got around to watching it last night. Meh. There were some funny parts, but it didn't have me rolling on the floor, either...except for "Welcome to Costco. I love you."

This movie gave me about a handful of laughs, with a chuckle or two sprinkled in. I rented based off my liking Office Space and had to fight the urge to shut off the DVD player on more than one occasion. Terrible.

Years later, the marketing tie-in kicks in.
